Student answer (Band 5.5)

The rate at which the world is growing is so fast and unexpected. We find ourselves in an ara where artificial intelligence has expidited so many activities of humans including agriculture and its related activities. Anyone would easily think that this should rather make life easier, however, this seems to be rather rasing cost of living and resources including foods.

This is my opinion about the case of high cost of food because, a lot of technologies being employed to advance in the areas of agriculture demands the investment of money. The final cost of these advanced technologies which are used in agricultural processes are then pushed unto the final consumers. This makes it very difficult for ordinary people to access food to eat.

In this modern world, these food processing companies are currently fighting government taxes on food and food processing equipments, which put much preasure on the manufacturers to add these taxes on the final products.

Unfortunately, raw materials used for the assembling of these advanced automated machines for food processing are slapped with heavy tarrifs due to tarrif wars between nations.

A clear example is the tarriff war between the United State of America and Canada, where steels and aluminium for assembling these food processing machineries are hit with taxes. In addition to that, processed foods such as cheese, drinks, and other groceries are suffering from tarrifs. Some unprocessed food products such fruits and vegetables are also affected by these tarrifs, and these are the major reasons why people aroun the world are still hungry.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the first part of the prompt regarding why hunger persists, focusing on the cost of technology and trade tariffs. However, the second part of the prompt—what can be done about this problem—is completely ignored. The essay lacks any suggestions for solutions, which is a significant omission. The ideas presented are relevant but remain somewhat narrow, focusing heavily on trade wars rather than broader agricultural or socio-economic factors. To improve, you must ensure that every question in the prompt is answered with equal weight. The lack of a conclusion or a section dedicated to solutions prevents this from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'In addition to that' and 'A clear example', the flow between ideas is sometimes disjointed. The transition from the introduction to the body paragraphs is abrupt. Furthermore, the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the essay feel unfinished. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the arguments could be more cohesive to guide the reader more effectively through your reasoning.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors such as 'ara' (era), 'expidited' (expedited), 'rasing' (raising), 'preasure' (pressure), 'tarrifs' (tariffs), and 'aroun' (around). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'automated machines' and 'raw materials', the range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to use more precise collocations to express your ideas more fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'pushed unto the final consumers' should be 'pushed onto', and 'demands the investment of money' should be 'demand the investment of money' to agree with the plural subject 'technologies'. There are also issues with article usage and preposition choice. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevents the text from demonstrating the control required for a higher band score.
