Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required 250-word minimum, which severely limits the development of ideas. The essay fails to address the prompt effectively; it misinterprets the task as a discussion of 'merits and demerits' rather than explaining causes and solutions for global hunger. The introduction is largely irrelevant, and the body paragraph is incomplete and fails to provide a clear, logical argument. Because the response is so short and does not engage with the core requirements of the task, it cannot be considered a fully developed essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are fragmented and do not flow logically. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the confusing transition 'Initiating with the reason of the same'. The lack of a clear introduction, body, and conclusion makes the essay difficult to follow. The progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete sentences and the lack of a coherent argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'over much cold' instead of 'extreme cold' and 'grain is producing' instead of 'grain is being produced'. The student struggles to express basic ideas clearly, relying on repetitive and simplistic language. The lack of variety and the persistent errors in word formation and usage significantly impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('grain is producing'), article usage ('in some area'), and sentence structure ('because of some of the area there are must not enough rain'). These errors are pervasive and often make the text difficult to comprehend. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the frequent grammatical slips demonstrate a lack of control over basic English syntax.
