Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding why people go hungry despite agricultural advances and what can be done about it. The writer identifies issues such as farmers not receiving enough money for their produce and the negative impact of market syndicates and corruption. However, the ideas are severely limited and under-developed due to linguistic barriers, resulting in a partial treatment of the task. The position is discernible regarding eliminating market corruption and syndicates, but the lack of elaboration and clear examples keeps this performance at a Band 4.5 level. Although the word count requirement is met, the depth of content and argumentation remains quite basic and superficial.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organization of the text is basic and lacks clear overall progression. While the writer attempts to separate ideas into paragraphs, the internal structure of these paragraphs is frequently disjointed and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with repetitive connectors and unclear referencing (such as 'this thing a importent' and 'this is the main reasone to a farmar people still hungry'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is erratic, making it challenging for the reader to follow the logical flow of arguments. Overall, the structural and cohesive weaknesses place this response firmly in the Band 4 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and often inaccurate, with frequent spelling errors that heavily strain the reader's comprehension. Words like 'devolape', 'morden', 'issu', 'problame', 'equpe', 'uthpadon', and 'coroption' demonstrate severe spelling deficiencies. Furthermore, collocations are unnatural or non-existent (e.g., 'market sindicat', 'heard wark'). The lexical range is extremely limited and inadequate for discussing socio-economic issues effectively, meaning the response does not meet the criteria for Band 5, aligning instead with Band 4 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the response. The text consists largely of poorly constructed simple sentences and failed attempts at complex structures, which are riddled with basic errors. There are frequent tense confusions, missing verbs, incorrect word forms, and run-on sentences without proper punctuation (e.g., 'A farmar alows try to heard and he use advance thing in his fild and he uthpadon very proper but he sell his product he dont have enogh mony'). Errors are so frequent that they constantly distort meaning and impede communication, reflecting the characteristics of a Band 4 performance.
