Student answer (Band 5.0)
Agriculture is a field where people grow and harvest crops and provide food for themselves and others. But inspite of the advances and progess in the agriculture industry, problem of hunger is still there.
Unpredictable and unplanned rain is one of several reasons for this issue, because at one point crops dont need water, but rain destroy the crops. Because this is one thing, people can not control, as it is a natural phenomenon. The other major reason is floods. Floods are caused due to excessive rainfall, overflowing of dams and rivers. Neighbour countries hold water for as much time as they can, but when they dont have enough capacity to store water, they released a huge amount of water to their nearby countries. Water enters the fields and destroyed them completely, results in hunger and poverty.
So, no doubt agriculture industry made several advancements in their field, by the training of farmers to the availaibility of good quality and expensive fertilizers. But they dont have any safety measures against floods. This rises the cost of crops, lower class or poor people are unable to buy that and at last hunger become a national crisis. Our government should take precautions and safety measures. They should make more dams so water can be utilized for electricity, and crops can be saved.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons for hunger (unpredictable weather, floods, lack of safety measures) and suggesting solutions (government action, building dams). However, the ideas lack full development and extension. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met; the response contains only 220 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This under-length negatively impacts task achievement, resulting in a partial or limited treatment of the prompt. While the main issues are identified, the arguments would benefit from greater depth, more specific real-world examples, and a fully realized conclusion. For these reasons, the score reflects an under-length penalty and underdeveloped ideas, matching the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response exhibits some overall organization, starting with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions, and a concluding thought. However, progression is somewhat disjointed. Paragraphing is weak, with a very dense second paragraph that lumps multiple ideas together, and an abrupt, very brief final paragraph. Cohesive devices are at times basic or mechanical, such as 'Because this is one thing' and 'at last hunger become a national crisis.' Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'they dont have any safety measures' where the antecedent is slightly ambiguous. Overall, the structural flaws place this performance firmly within the Band 5 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for conveying basic ideas, such as 'agriculture,' 'harvest,' 'poverty,' and 'government.' However, the range is quite limited, and there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'inspite' (in spite), 'progess' (progress), 'availaibility' (availability), 'dont' (don't), and 'released' (release). The student attempts some less common terms like 'phenomenon' and 'precautions,' but overall lexical control is weak, and repetitive phrasing ('water,' 'crops,' 'hunger') restricts the score to a Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences frequently contain errors, such as 'Neighbour countries hold water for as much time as they can, but when they dont have enough capacity to store water, they released a huge amount of water to their nearby countries.' There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('problem of hunger is still there,' 'results in hunger'), missing articles ('lower class or poor people'), and tense inconsistency ('destroyed them completely, results in'). These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with the Band 5 descriptors.
