Student answer (Band 4.5)
Today many advances are been developed in agriculture, but still people around the world are starving. The main reason is rapaidly raising price of crops. We can solve the problem buy helping farmers buy reducing the prices of agruculture materials.
Tha main reason of people starving with hunger around the world is they can not afford to buy the food becuse of it's raising prices. The reason behind the raising prices of crops is developement in farming because if there is development happening then prices of that thing also frequently rise. For example every year the goverment rais the prices of fertilizers and other material that a farmer need to grow crop and get good yeild but when the farmer buy the expenceive material and at the time of harvest we also sell the crops at high prices because we also have to get profit. Therfore every year the prices of crops and eating good become higher and lower class people around the world are not able to afford expencive food to eat and they starve from hunger.
On the other side there is also solution for this problem but it is in the hand of goverment like goverment can lower the tax on agriculture good and lower the tax on crops and finacialy support the poor farmers so they can grow good crops and can get good profit therefore after people watching it more people can be attract to farming. The other way is by giving education about agriculture to other peoples by running campaines and telling people the benifits of farming so more people can become intersisting in agriculture.
In conclustion, the main cause of people starving around the world because of food is the rapidly raising prices of crops. But can be lower buy reducing the tax on agriclture and attracting more farmers to grow food.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons behind world hunger despite agricultural advances—primarily focusing on rising crop prices—and suggesting solutions such as government subsidies and agricultural education. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the explanation of why development leads to higher prices ('because if there is development happening then prices of that thing also frequently rise') is under-developed and lacks economic clarity. The student maintains a clear position throughout, but the arguments rely on simple generalisations rather than fully extended reasoning. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, as it addresses the task but remains limited and partially under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, reflecting a basic attempt at logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by poor transitions and mechanical cohesive devices like 'On the other side' instead of 'On the other hand'. Referencing is frequently unclear, particularly with pronoun shifts such as 'we also sell the crops' after discussing farmers in the third person, which creates confusion regarding the writer's perspective. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is faulty, placing this response firmly in the Band 5 category for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by numerous spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'rapaidly' for rapidly, 'agruculture' for agriculture, 'yeild' for yield, 'expenceive' for expensive, 'campaines' for campaigns, and 'intersisting' for interested. While the student attempts to use less common items such as 'subsidies' (implied via financial support) or 'fertilizers', these attempts are marred by inaccurate spelling and inappropriate collocations like 'eating good' to mean nutritious food or purchasing food. The lexical range is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning, but noticeable errors cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faultily constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors that impede communication and distort meaning, such as 'Today many advances are been developed' (passive voice error), 'people starving with hunger' (preposition error), 'becuse of it's raising prices' (spelling and possessive error), and 'the main cause of people starving around the world because of food is...' (incomplete or confused predicate). The majority of sentences contain noticeable errors, matching the characteristics of Band 4 grammar.
