Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing reasons for global hunger, such as high food prices and disrupted imports and exports, and suggests solutions like food preservation and diversified crop growing. However, the ideas are often repetitive and lack sufficient depth or specific real-world examples. For instance, the statement that 'new food like rice, potatos, tomatos' are manufactured with the help of a genetic revolution is scientifically imprecise and under-developed. Furthermore, the introduction relies heavily on memorized template phrases such as 'I shed some light on both reasons and solutions for which vindication would be elaborated in the upcoming paragraphs.' Overall, it covers all parts of the task but lacks full development, aligning well with the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing a basic attempt at organization with standard transitional markers like 'To commence with' and 'On the other hand'. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and abrupt shifts in ideas. Cohesive devices are often mechanical, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as 'To explain with, in some countries individuals faces hunger issue because of high price in agriculture and crops.' Paragraphing is used, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, and referencing is occasionally unclear. These features are characteristic of Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive throughout the response. The student frequently reuses basic terms like 'food', 'crops', 'technology', and 'solutions'. There are notable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'potatos', 'tomatos', 'hepls', and 'considration'. While attempts are made to use less common vocabulary like 'vindication', 'prominent', and 'economic development', they are often used incorrectly or inappropriately in context. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mainly of simple and occasionally faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals faces hunger issue'), missing articles ('because of high price'), and incorrect preposition use. Punctuation errors are also present, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. These persistent errors cause frequent strain and difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly in Band 5.
