Student answer (Band 6.0)
Despite great progress in farming technology, the majority of the population of the world still suffer from hunger, The main reasons for this concern include poverty, lack of a food distribution monitoring system and climate change. This essay provides details regarding the major promoting factors of this issue and how we can resolve it.
The primary reason boosting the hunger issue is poverty. Half of the population cannot afford an adequate amount of food to fulfil their nutritional requirements. This deficiency has played a pivotal role in the expansion of the hunger crisis. In fact, developing countries are predominantly characterized by low-income household; consequently, they have to suffer more food insecurity concerns.
Another major factor which contributes to increasing the rate of hunger problem is the absence of food distribution regulatory authorities. There is no proper check and control over the supply and demand of food at a particular place which leads to a disturbance in food availability. Eventually, it can cause severe hunger concerns due to the unavailability of food in certain areas.
Additionally, climate change can also increase the hunger issue. Deforestation and overflooding are one of the major concerns which can enhance the consequences of food unavailability. Research has shown that flood affected areas are more prone to hunger risks than others.
To resolve this issue, governments should introduce a proper regulatory committee that can monitor the supply of food as per the need of that particular place. Furthermore, they should establish a department that can manage natural disasters appropriately. Authorities should also make plans to overcome the adverse effects of poverty on food security.
To conclude, hunger issues are one of the growing concerns of the modern world due to various natural events or even as a result of human activities. To overcome this issue governments should intervene and develop a department to deal with this crisis.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the prompt, successfully identifying causes of hunger such as poverty, lack of a food distribution monitoring system, and climate change, while also proposing actionable solutions involving government intervention and regulatory committees. The position is clear throughout the response, and the ideas are logically extended and supported with relevant explanations. For instance, the discussion on poverty correctly links low-income households to food insecurity. While some of the supporting details could benefit from more specific real-world examples rather than generalisations, the overall coverage of the task is thorough and well-developed. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are structured into a logical flow, beginning with a clear introduction, followed by body paragraphs dedicated to individual causes and solutions, and concluding with a summary. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Another major factor', 'Additionally', and 'To resolve this issue' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions feel slightly formulaic. Paragraphing is managed sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. Referencing is generally clear, contributing to a coherent overall arrangement that fits the Band 7 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary that allows for some flexibility and precision, employing appropriate terms such as 'nutritional requirements', 'food insecurity', 'regulatory authorities', and 'adverse effects'. There are attempts to use less common items with general awareness of style and collocation, such as 'pivotal role' and 'predominantly characterized'. However, occasional errors in word choice and phrasing occur, such as 'boosting the hunger issue' instead of 'worsening' or 'driving', and 'overflooding' instead of 'flooding'. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary used is adequate for the task and does not impede communication, satisfying the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. Examples of complex structures include sentences introduced by 'Despite great progress...' and 'Another major factor which contributes...'. However, there are some noticeable grammatical errors and punctuation slips, such as the comma splice in the opening sentence ('...suffer from hunger, The main reasons...') and singular/plural mismatch issues ('low-income household' instead of 'households'). Furthermore, 'Deforestation and overflooding are one of the major concerns' contains a subject-verb agreement error. These errors occur periodically but rarely impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.
