Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the task by identifying causes of hunger, such as poverty and agricultural land loss, and suggesting solutions like government investment and public awareness. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on sweeping generalisations rather than deep elaboration. Furthermore, the length requirement has NOT been met, as the response contains only 243 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This lack of full development and the under-length penalty restrict the score. Phrases like 'Government investment and public awareness would be prominent solution' touch upon the prompt but lack sustained support. Overall, the content is relevant but superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an incomplete conclusion that trails off mid-sentence ('thoug'). While there is a logical progression from causes to solutions, paragraphing and referencing are sometimes faulty. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or repetitively, such as 'Another reason is that' and 'To overcome this situation'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'where they can match with the present trend'. Overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, but cohesion lacks flexibility and control.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are several noticeable word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'hungerness', 'price hike of the food', and 'collects culvating components'. Spelling errors like 'adverticement' also occur. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, the frequent inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The text contains a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('agricultural land are destroying', 'public awareness must needed'), missing articles ('price hike of the food'), and fragment sentences. The essay also ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence fragment. These errors frequently impede communication and demonstrate a limited range of reliable structures.
