Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many technological advancements are being made in agriculture in most of the coutries.Despite all these advancements, many people around the world are still hungry. There are several reasons for this hungerness all over the world.

Although, many developing countries all around the world have modern techniques in agriculture , their costs is too high which enable them to export their agricultural products to other developed countries.

Most of the developing countries are using advanced equipments which are quite beneficial in agrculture industries. In addition to that, they are getting high yield of product.Goverments do not provide subsides to the farmers which ultimately cause soaring of prices of agricultural products in such countries.Farmers spend a lot of money but in return they get nothing.

On the other hand, there are many other countries which have not local agricultural products so the demand of such products is very high in such countries. In order to make considerable money, farmers export these products to other foreign countries which ultimately leads towards the shortage of these local products in their own country. For example, Pakistan exports its high quality wheat crops to foreign countries which causes its shortage for local people.

In order to fix these problems, goverment of developing countries should take some beneficial steps in order to encourage the people realted to agrcultural lands. They must provide them subsides and other facilties. They must fix price which is suitable for both local people as well as for the farmers. While making polices, they must consider the suitable prices of different agricultural products so that export of such products can be prevented. Moreover, there must be low prices of fertilizers which ultamtely will reduce the cost about agricultural products.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons why people still go hungry despite agricultural advancements and suggesting solutions such as government subsidies and price controls. However, the development of ideas suffers from some logical inconsistencies and confusion. For instance, the writer states that developing countries use advanced equipment and get high yields, yet paradoxically claims their costs are too high which 'enable them to export' (likely intending to mean prevent or hinder export, or vice versa). Furthermore, the argument regarding exports causing shortages is illustrated with Pakistan exporting wheat, which is a relevant example, but the reasoning remains slightly muddled. Overall, all parts are addressed, but the ideas are not fully developed or supported with precise clarity, placing this performance at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, reasons, examples, and solutions effectively. Cohesive devices are used to signal relationships between ideas, such as 'In addition to that', 'On the other hand', and 'In order to fix these problems'. However, referencing and logical transitions are occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, the phrase 'this hungerness' is awkward, and the transition between sentences in the second and third paragraphs can be disjointed. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but the logical progression between sentences within paragraphs requires tighter control. These issues align with the Band 6 descriptors for cohesion and paragraphing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'advancements', 'subsidies', 'considerable', and 'fertilizers'. However, there are several noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation that detract from the precision of the writing. Examples include 'coutries' (countries), 'hungerness' (hunger), 'equipments' (equipment is uncountable), 'Goverments' (governments), 'subsides' (subsidies), 'realted' (related), 'facilties' (facilities), and 'polices' (policies). The misuse of 'enable them to export' instead of inhibiting exports also causes confusion. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, the frequency of spelling and lexical inaccuracies restricts the score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing dependent clauses introduced by 'Although', 'In order to', and 'while'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'their costs is too high', 'do not provide subsides to the farmers which ultimately cause soaring', and 'reduce the cost about agricultural products'. Punctuation and spacing issues are also present, such as missing spaces after periods and commas. Although communication is rarely impeded entirely, the persistence of these errors across both simple and complex structures prevents the essay from reaching a Band 6.0.
