Student answer (Band 5.0)
Agriculture is the backbone of most countries. Many advancements have been made in this sector. Despite the advances, many people around the world still go hungry.
To begin with, the most important factor that is affecting people in this regard is the hefty percentage of exports that is being done by governments around the world , which results in food scarcity leaving people severely malnourished and hungry. The wealthy people easily afford the food but the poor pay the price.
Another reason is that people hoard food that ultimately results in sky rocketing prices making it difficult for people to have access to them.
To solve this problem, many productive and efficient measures can be taken.
Firstly, governments should keep enough food for their own people before before exporting it.
Secondly, they should regulate monopolies or otherwise ban them to protect consumers from low quality and high prices.
Overall, exports should be done only when it is not going to create problem for the people also government should play an active role in protecting the basic necessities from being hoarded as it will have an adverse affect on the economy of the country and once it will get out of hands government will not be able to control it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the task by identifying causes of hunger, such as excessive exports and food hoarding, and suggesting solutions like government regulation. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack specific supporting examples, relying instead on broad generalisations. Furthermore, the response suffers from a significant length penalty, containing only 209 words, which falls well short of the mandatory 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the development of the response is incomplete, leading to a band score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions, and a conclusion. However, the overall organisation feels somewhat disjointed due to the brevity of the response. Cohesive devices are used simply, such as 'To begin with', 'Another reason', and 'Firstly', but referencing and transitions between sentences can be mechanical or abrupt, as seen in the final paragraph which runs several distinct ideas together in a lengthy, unpunctuated manner. Progression is limited by the lack of extended argumentation.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items such as 'malnourished', 'sky rocketing prices', and 'monopolies'. However, there are notable lexical limitations and inaccuracies, such as repetitive phrasing and awkward collocations like 'export that is being done by governments'. Word choice is sometimes simplistic, and spelling errors like 'affect' instead of 'effect' appear in the concluding section. The range is minimally sufficient.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are several run-on sentences, particularly in the conclusion, which lack proper punctuation and coherence (e.g., 'overall, exports should be done only when it is not going to create problem for the people also government should play an active role...'). Errors in article usage, pluralisation, and punctuation are frequent. While the meaning is generally communicated, the frequency of grammatical slips places this at a band 5.0 level.
