Student answer (Band 6.0)

Despite major advances in farming technology, world hunger remains a big problem. This happens mainly becauise of poor food distribution and political conflicts, but better transportation and support for the local farmers can help solve it.

The main reason people go hungry is not a lack of food, but how food is removed from one place to another. Rich nation produce plenty of food but poor countries often lack good roads, trucks and storage facilities. Because of this, large amounts of food not before reaching people in need. In addition, wars and politicial conflicts make things worsen. In war zones, routes are often blocked, preventing charity groups from deliverying food to starving communities. In Asian countries, most of the time crops will spoil because of floods and climate changes.

To fix this issue, governments and international organization needs to wok on these lackings. First improving infrastructure-such as building and better roads and clod storage centre- will stop food from spoiling and waste from floods, as well as help to deliver it quickly. Second, helping small organisation and local farmers with better seeds, affordable water system to enhance the quantity of crops. For example, giving small loans to farmers in rural area has helped them grow enough food to feed their own villages.

In conclusion, world hunger continues because of poor transporation system and wars, not because we do not grow enough food. By improving logistics and helping local farmers grow their own food, we can ensure everyone has enough to eat.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying causes of world hunger, such as poor food distribution and conflicts, and proposing solutions like improving infrastructure and supporting local farmers. The position is clear throughout the essay. Ideas are generally well supported, although some examples are brief or slightly generalised, as seen in the mention of Asian countries and floods. Overall, the content fully satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 task response, successfully covering both the 'why' and the 'what can be done' components of the prompt with relevant and logical arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions respectively, and a concise conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, with phrases like 'The main reason', 'In addition', and 'To fix this issue' helping to structure the response. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical or abrupt, and minor linking errors occur, placing the response solidly in the Band 6.0 to 6.5 range for organisation and logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using topic-specific terms such as 'farming technology', 'food distribution', 'storage facilities', and 'infrastructure'. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'becauise', 'nation' instead of 'nations', 'politicial', 'wossen' (worsen), 'deliverying', 'lackings', and 'clod' (cold) storage. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0 due to recurring slips in spelling and morphological forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over conditional and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'Because of this, large amounts of food not before reaching people in need'). However, the text contains a notable number of grammatical errors, including fragments and tense/agreement issues like 'organization needs to wok on these lackings' and 'transportation system' lacking pluralisation where appropriate. While these errors rarely impede the reader's understanding, their frequency prevents the grammar score from reaching the Band 7.0 threshold, making Band 6.0 an accurate reflection of current control.
