Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many countries, in spite of advances made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry. There are several reasons of this situation such as the high price of food and the unequal distributions of food to certain places. However, effective measures such as the involvement of governments to maintain a price cap and to make food available to remote areas helps to overcome this issue.
One of the main reasons for people still remain hungry despite of advances in agriculture is the high prices of food set by sellers. This makes it difficult for low-income people to access the food. As a result, the high prices prevent poor people to have meals on regular basis. Another factor is the lack of distribution made to areas like deserts. People of these areas may undergo starvation due to the lack of food available to them. This is because proplr of these areas may not able to grow vegetables and make food due to unsuitable weather and soil conditions.
This issue can be addressed by the involvement of the government. Goverments should put a price cap on various foods so that they are easily accessible to poor people. This prevent individuals from remaining hungry despite of advances in agriculture. Additionally, authorities should improve the food distribution systems to make it available to the consumers in remote areas. This prevents people from going hungry despite the advancements.
In conclusion, the high price and the unequal distribution are the key factors for many people around the world still remain hungry despite of advances made in agriculture. This issue can be solved by the involvement of the government for maintaining the price range and making food available to remote areas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying the causes of global hunger, such as high food prices and unequal distribution, and offering viable solutions like government price caps and improved distribution systems. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, the ideas lack deep extension and tend to be slightly repetitive, especially in the conclusion and body paragraphs where phrases like 'despite of advances made in agriculture' are reiterated multiple times. While the main points are relevant and supported, the development is somewhat basic and falls short of the higher band criteria due to this superficial extension. Overall, it satisfies the requirements of a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with a logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a discernible focus: the introduction outlines the problems and solutions, the first body paragraph discusses causes, the second outlines solutions, and the conclusion summarises the arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical, and referencing is sometimes imprecise, as seen in repetitive phrasing such as 'despite of advances' and 'this issue can be solved by the involvement of the government'. These minor cohesion issues place the response comfortably within the Band 6.0 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms like 'unequal distributions', 'low-income people', and 'starvation'. However, there are notable word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'reasons of this situation' instead of 'reasons for', and frequent reliance on repetition of basic vocabulary items. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control lacks precision and flexibility. Attempts at less common vocabulary are limited and sometimes inaccurate, making Band 6.0 an accurate reflection of the student's lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable attempt at complex structures (e.g., 'One of the main reasons for people still remain hungry...'). However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, most notably preposition errors such as 'despite of' instead of 'despite' or 'in spite of', and subject-verb agreement issues like 'proplr of these areas may not able'. Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the errors do not strain the reader's understanding. This aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors for grammatical range and accuracy.
