Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons why hunger persists despite agricultural advancements and offering potential solutions. A position is presented in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. For instance, the explanation of population growth focuses heavily on grocery prices and basic survival, which could be extended with more sophisticated economic or logistical points. The example regarding the United Nation 2014 report is relevant, although vague in its specific details. Similarly, the solution involving educational institutions and celebrity endorsements is stated rather than fully explored. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions respectively, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as "On the other hand," "That is to say," and "Consequently." However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen in phrases like "One of the prominent reasons, why people are facing hunger related situation even modern farming exist..." which features clunky phrasing and imprecise connective logic. Furthermore, the use of "On the other hand" to introduce a solution is logically mismatched, as solutions do not necessarily contrast with causes. These minor issues with logical flow and mechanical cohesion place this response firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common items such as "escalation," "undernutrition," and "prominent reasons." However, there are notable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation throughout the text. Examples include "farming benefit" instead of "farming benefits," "peak in the grocery rate" instead of "spike in food prices," and "advertisements companies" instead of "advertising agencies." Additionally, there are repetitive uses of simple terms like "people," "spread," and "farming." While these lexical errors occasionally distract the reader, they do not impede overall communication. The vocabulary control aligns well with the descriptors for a Band 5.5 to 6.0, reflecting an adequate operational range with noticeable limitations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures through subordinate clauses and introductory phrases. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text. Examples of structural and grammatical inaccuracies include missing articles ("It is undeniable fact," "According the United Nation"), incorrect verb forms ("it can be solve"), and awkward phrasing ("even modern farming exist"). Punctuation and preposition errors also appear, such as in "reached at its peaked level." Although these errors persist and require the reader to occasionally re-read sections, they rarely completely impede communication. The control of grammar aligns best with the Band 5.0 descriptors, as simple sentences are generally controlled while attempts at more complex structures frequently result in errors.
