Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent years, modern methods of agriculture have become increasingly popular across the world. Some people argue that despite all the advances made in agriculture, many people are still facing starvation. In this essay, I will explain the reasons for this problem and its solutions.
There are several reasons for this problem including rapid population growth and increased life expectancy. Nowadays, people are living longer due to advanced healthcare systems which directly affects natural resource scarcity. Population is increasing exponentially, and declining resources including fertile soil fail to fulfill the needs of such a huge number of people. Resultantly, low-income families and under-developed countries are experiencing severe hunger. Secondly, in this contemporary society, food wastage is one of main reasons. Financially affluent and middle-income people tend to waste food at the events, weddings and on a daily basis as well. Consequently, low-income families are left with limited food availability.
On the other hand, there are many solutions to tackle starvation. Governments can take numerous steps and enforce laws to ensure equal distribution of resources among people. They can control food wastage by allocating particular quantity of food for the specific number of people. In this way, food will be prevented from wastage and will probably reach disadvantaged areas. Secondly, they can prepare genetically modified seeds to enhance food production. This step can efficiently cope with the increasing demands of nutrition. For example, governments can produce different breeds of chickens that can grow fast and give more eggs with sufficient nutritional value.
All things considered, although modern agriculture practices are increasing food production, their poor handling might causes the reducing supply especially among deprived areas. Governenments new policies for enhancing food production and regulated distribution combat starvation.

| Overall | 7.0 |
Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons for ongoing global hunger (population growth, resource scarcity, and food wastage) and providing actionable solutions (laws for resource distribution and genetically modified seeds). The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of food wastage at events and specific breeding methods for chickens. The arguments are generally well-developed, fitting comfortably into the Band 7 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay displays clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to causes, solutions, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'Secondly', 'Consequently', and 'On the other hand' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the overall arrangement is coherent, although some minor mechanical transitions could be slightly more integrated to reach the higher bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, utilising terms such as 'exponentially', 'resource scarcity', 'financially affluent', and 'genetically modified'. Less common lexical items are attempted with decent awareness of style and collocation, although there are a few minor lexical inaccuracies or awkward phrasings, such as 'allocating particular quantity of food' and 'gives more eggs', which prevent the essay from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several error-free sentences, demonstrating good control; however, a few grammatical errors and awkwardities persist, such as 'their poor handling might causes the reducing supply' and the spelling typo 'Governenments'. These errors do not impede communication, but their presence points clearly to a Band 6.5 profile.
