Student answer (Band 6.0)
Irrefutabley, Agriculture is the important source of food for nourishing human life. Despite the advancements in farming, numerous individuals still remain hungry across the globe. This can be due to environmental disasters and less income of people, which will be examined further with possible solutions, before reaching a definitive conclusion.
There are plethora of grounds behind this scenario; first and formost is, ecological problems. Although technological advancements rendered the agriculture convenient, there are side-effects of some other advances on the environment leading to ecological imbalance causing acid rains and floods which have detrimental effect on crops. To illustrate this point, in recent times, global warming is caused by the contamination of air by modern vehicles and factories due to which there is surge in the amount of melting of glaciers causing floods. Coupled with this, there are some socio-economically disadvantaged people who have no jobs or have less source of income owing to which they are not able to nourish theirselves and their family.
To mitigate this issue there are some methods. The prominent one is the sustainable use of modern resources. To explain it more, people should pay attention towards the envirnomental problems and should reduce the use of the technology that can impact the environment. For instance, instead of using vehicles which run on fossil fuels, individuals can switch to electric vehicles. In addition, governing bodies should have take some steps to reduce socio-economic disparity, by providing jobs to more and more individuals.
In conclusion, While environmental degradation and poverty are the reasons of hunger of some people, even after the modern technology used in agriculture, this can tackled by sustainability as well as providing employment to poor people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the causes of hunger despite agricultural advances and proposing practical solutions. The position is clear throughout the essay, introducing environmental problems and poverty in the introduction and expanding on them in the body paragraphs. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations, such as mentioning global warming, acid rain, and the lack of employment opportunities. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or under-develop certain points, such as the direct link between melting glaciers and agricultural failure. Overall, the task is well-addressed, fulfilling the criteria for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, and is placed firmly at Band 6.5 due to minor underexplored points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, causes, solutions, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as "first and formost is", "To illustrate this point", and "To mitigate this issue" are utilised to structure the response, though some of these devices feel slightly mechanical or are flawed in their mechanics. Referencing is generally clear, and logical progression is maintained throughout, guiding the reader smoothly from causes to solutions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.5, though more flexible and unobtrusive referencing would be needed for a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "ecological imbalance", "socio-economically disadvantaged", and "governing bodies". However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including "Irrefutabley", "plethora of grounds" (collocation issue), "first and formost", and "envirnomental". Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication. These occasional errors and slightly unnatural collocations place the lexical resource firmly at the Band 6 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and subordinate clauses such as "Although technological advancements rendered the agriculture convenient..." and "...individuals can switch to electric vehicles." There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including punctuation errors, missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as "have no jobs or have less source of income" and "governing bodies should have take some steps". While these errors occur with some frequency, they rarely impede communication, allowing the writer to achieve a Band 6.0.
