Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this era of technology, despite of the advancement made in farming sector, numerous number of individuals still deal with hunger across the globe. In my opinion, there are several reasons of increasing hunger such as increasing population and dearness. This problem can be solved by spreading awareness about over-population and goverment should provide support to poor poeple.

To commence with the major reason of widespread hunger is over-population. To elaborate, because population is growing exponentially in every part of the world, food produced through agriculture which is constant is not enough for everynone. In addition, farming land is now changing into industrial and residential places, as a result production of food is decreasing. Additionally, increased dearness is making hard for people to buy food who are not working or not earning any money. it also affecting the food production of farmers because they can not afford costly pesticides for crops. For example, in india farmers have to buy seed and pesticides on whatever amount decided by companies. While, when they have to sell the crop the merchant will decide the price. As a result, the gap between the income of citizens is increasing everyday.

However, there are several steps can be taken to resolve this issue. The first and foremost one is spreading awareness about disadvantages of over-population along with advantages of controlled population. To unfold it more, what is more important for resolution, that inhabitants should understand about how much population control is necessary and side-effects of increasing population. Secondly, the governments should facilitate poor people with basic food, so they do not have to face hunger. For instance, in several locations of india mobile government kitchen is opened, from where anybody can eat food at cheaper price and this price is equal to the cost of candy. Along with this, government should have to find more ways in which they can create more jobs like by funding private industries.

In conclusion, although there are several reasons of widespread hunger like population and dearness, it can be resolved by spreading awareness of over-population and government can create new opportunities of work and facilitate poor people with food at low cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for ongoing hunger (over-population, loss of farming land, and high costs/dearness) and solutions (spreading awareness and government support). The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or rely on generalisations without deeper exploration. For instance, the discussion on agricultural pricing in India touches upon relevant issues, but the argumentation lacks full extension. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on the balance of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is coherent overall with a clear structure consisting of an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate reasons and solutions. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To commence with', 'In addition', and 'Secondly', though some of these transitional markers feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor logical links are slightly abrupt, such as the transition into the example about Indian farmers. Overall progression is visible, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'exponentially', 'residential places', and 'facilitate'. However, there are notable word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'despite of', 'numerous number of individuals', and 'dearness' instead of 'inflation' or 'high cost of living'. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'goverment' and 'poeple', occur but do not severely impede communication. These limitations place the lexical range firmly at Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordinate clauses ('While, when they have to sell the crop...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in india', 'on whatever amount'), incorrect prepositional usage ('despite of'), and awkward phrasing like 'there are several steps can be taken'. Punctuation errors, including missing capitalization at the start of sentences ('it also affecting'), also appear. While communication is rarely impeded, the density of errors keeps the score at Band 5.5.
