Student answer (Band 6.0)
In contemporary society, the agriculture sector has improved quite a lot but there are still many people who starve. This essay will explain the main reasons behind this world hunger and also explain the steps that can be taken to recover from this problem.
Regarding the first issue, the main reason behind this is a lack of proper knowledge. Agriculture around the world has been able to progress this far due to all the research, experiments, and technological advancements that scientists have done. However, many farmers were not able to apply all of these to their farming because they do not have proper guidance. For instance, in Bangladesh, many farmers still do not have access to advanced technology and farming methods. Because of this, they cannot keep up with foreign farmers in terms of a healthy amount of crops.
Turning to the second question, to solve this situation, many measures can be implemented. First of all, the government should take initiative to reach out to those who need to learn new methods of cultivation and provide them with quality resources, which would make it possible to produce more crops. Eventually, this can solve the world hunger problem if followed properly.
In conclusion, after advancing this much in the agriculture sector, a lack of proper knowledge can hinder the process of cultivation from reaching its full potential. So, the government needs to take action to end world starvation by starting from the root of the problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the task by discussing the reasons for world hunger, such as a lack of proper knowledge and technology, and suggesting solutions like government initiatives and resource provision. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks deep exploration. Furthermore, the response suffers from an under-length penalty because it contains only 245 words, which falls short of the minimum 250-word requirement. Because the word count requirement is not met, the task achievement score is capped at Band 5.5, despite the clear relevance of the ideas and examples presented.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is arranged logically with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'Regarding the first issue', 'Turning to the second question', and 'First of all'. Paragraphing is handled appropriately, dividing the introduction, body points, and conclusion into distinct sections. However, referencing and cohesive links are at times a bit mechanical, preventing the essay from reaching higher bands. Overall, the logical flow is clear and easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating attempts at less common phrasing such as 'contemporary society', 'technological advancements', and 'methods of cultivation'. However, word choice and collocation occasionally lack precision, as seen in phrases like 'recover from this problem' instead of 'solve this problem' or 'address this issue', and 'a healthy amount of crops'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly in the Band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Agriculture around the world has been able to progress this far due to all the research...' and '...quality resources, which would make it possible to produce more crops.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, for instance, 'after advancing this much in the agriculture sector' which is somewhat informal and clumsy. Nevertheless, the majority of simple sentences are accurate, and complex structures are attempted with enough success that communication is rarely impeded, aligning with Band 6 criteria.
