Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, exploring causes such as poverty, unequal food distribution, and conflicts, while suggesting government and international measures. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the student states, 'many peoples across the world in some countries develop countries suffer from hungry because they do not have sufficient money to buy food,' which lacks full elaboration. The discussion of migration feels tangential and disrupts the flow of the argument. While the main task requirements are met, the explanations remain relatively basic and generalized. This performance aligns with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organizational structure, including an introduction, body points, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by poor paragraphing, run-on sentences, and abrupt shifts in topics, such as the sudden pivot to migration issues mid-way through the essay. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, as seen in phrases like 'Whenever we migrate to another country the fairs of accomadation was high...', which lacks logical connection to the surrounding discourse on global hunger. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and logical links between sentences are frequently strained, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and non-standard forms such as 'hungry' used as a noun instead of hunger, and 'accomadation' misspelled. Other lexical inaccuracies include 'develop countries' instead of developing countries and 'fairs' instead of fares or costs. While the language is minimally adequate to convey the core topic of food scarcity, the numerous lexical errors and lack of sophisticated phrasing restrict the score to Band 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The essay contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'There was a advances spite made,' 'the prices of the food are high, even when food was available in there region,' and 'this was affecting to different countries and there was a difficulty to transport food.' Run-on sentences and comma splices are prevalent throughout the text. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 4.0 descriptors.
