Student answer (Band 5.5)
There are major advancements that have took place in the agriculture sector in the last century. However, despite the advances made in agriculture many people around the globe would still be hungry. This case may happen due to many reasons and in this essay I am going to discuess the issues and potential ways to prevent or solve them them.
One of the reasons might be the rise in prices. Altough the agriculture sector have gotten advanced but the prices of food also went up with it and as it is getting more advanced the poor might not be able to afford anthing to eat. Like in Mayanmar and many Affrican countries where people are not even able to afford food because of the peices. Moreover, other reasons might include packaging and storing. In spite the advancements there is no better way to pack or store food and it can go ripe whie shipping or the packaging can contain harmful substances which can make the food poisoneus once they cross they cross the time of use and the food has to be discarded. For example in Qwait all the food is shipped from other countries because majority of its area consits of desert
These are indeed major problems throughout the world but there can be ways to solve these issues. For example, governments giving subsidies on food and crops for poor so no one stays hungry. Other examples to solve the issues may include growing food near the area where it needs to be shipped and introducing the methods of packing food without the chemicals so they can stay edible if not fresh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying causes of hunger despite agricultural advances and suggesting potential solutions, such as subsidies and local growing. The position is generally clear, though the development of ideas tends to be somewhat superficial and under-developed. For instance, the reference to Myanmar and African countries, as well as Kuwait, touches on relevant points like pricing and food shipping, but these examples lack detailed elaboration. Furthermore, there are minor generalisations and repetition in the reasoning. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6 where relevant ideas are presented but some parts remain under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. The writer relies heavily on basic transitional phrases such as 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'These are indeed major problems', and referencing can be unclear, such as the dangling pronoun 'them them' in the opening paragraph. Paragraphing is also somewhat basic, with multiple distinct ideas grouped together rather than fully logically sequenced. This level of cohesive control aligns with Band 5, where organisation is present but cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'advancements', 'agriculture sector', 'subsidies', and 'edible'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'took' instead of 'taken', 'discuess', 'Altough', 'Mayanmar', 'Affrican', 'peices' for prices, 'whie' for while, 'poisoneus', and 'Qwait'. These errors, alongside collocation slips such as 'prices of food also went up with it', occasionally hinder precision. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the core message, the frequency of errors restricts the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety through conditional-style clauses and relative structures like 'people who are not even able to afford food'. However, frequent grammatical errors impede fluency and clarity. Examples include tense and auxiliary verb errors ('have took', 'have gotten advanced'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'this case may happen due to many reasons'. Punctuation is also weak in places, notably missing commas in conditional or introductory phrases. Because frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader despite the attempt at complex structures, this performance fits Band 5.
