Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, finishing at only 201 words, which significantly limits the development of ideas. The student attempts to address both parts of the task by identifying causes, such as uneven distribution and corruption, and briefly mentions solutions regarding government support. However, the second body paragraph cuts off mid-thought, leaving the conclusion entirely unwritten and the solutions underdeveloped. The position is stated initially, but the lack of completion prevents a fully rounded evaluation. Therefore, performance aligns with Band 5 due to the severe under-development resulting from the incomplete length and missing concluding sections.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some basic structural organisation with an introduction and initial body paragraph, but it severely lacks a clear overall progression because the text stops abruptly in the middle of a sentence in the second body paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final section is unfinished. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as 'at one hand' and 'while on other hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance, 'it goes in the hands of higher position ministers'. Because the progression of ideas breaks down completely and the essay remains unfinished, the coherence and cohesion are restricted to a Band 5 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student has an adequate range of vocabulary for basic communication, attempting less common terms such as 'advancement', 'starvation', and 'smuggling'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'sriking', 'un-even', 'stravation', 'currpted', 'beacuse', 'sincear', 'carefull', and 'illigal'. Collocations are also awkward in places, such as 'higher position ministers' instead of 'high-ranking ministers' or 'corrupt officials'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, the high density of spelling and lexical errors pulls the score down to a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'In the world where we live, despite of a striking advancement...' and 'When government provides funds...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as 'despite of' (instead of 'despite'), 'un-even distributions of quantity' (faulty agreement/article use), and punctuation/fragment issues. The second sentence in the first body paragraph contains multiple structural faults like 'at one hand, people are more likely to waste quality food when they are give surpass of their need'. Because complex structures are frequently faulty and errors cause some difficulty for the reader, this warrants a Band 5.
