Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to answer both parts of the prompt—explaining why people go hungry through factors like poverty, unemployment, and population growth, and suggesting government action and community help—the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of South Africa and population increase in the fourth paragraph is simplistic and lacks elaboration. Similarly, the solutions offered, such as 'Government gave money to the poor peoples', are repetitive and lack depth. The position is sometimes unclear because the writing relies on informal conversational remarks like 'Now i tell you what we should do', which prevents the development of a fully academic line of argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text displays some organisation, but there is no clear overall progression. The writing is broken into very short, often single-sentence paragraphs, such as 'Now i tell you what we should do' and 'Some people hungry because of poverty.', which disrupts the flow and logical sequence of ideas. Cohesive devices are either inadequate, inaccurate, or over-used; the writer heavily relies on repetitive conjunctions and phrases like 'And some people' and 'They gave money to the poor peoples' without effective referencing. While there is an attempt to group related concepts about poverty and government intervention, the lack of sophisticated transitional language and proper paragraphing prevents the essay from achieving a smooth and coherent structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic, repetitive words and phrases, such as 'poor peoples', 'buy food', and 'advance world', which restricts the range of expression. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation that may cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'Every day population were increase', 'food bills and taxes is vey high', and 'take this serious actions'. Although the student attempts to discuss socio-economic topics, the lack of precise academic terminology prevents the vocabulary from being fully effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside basic coordinate clauses. Attempts at complex or conditional structures, such as 'If government take this serious actions so everyone buy food easily', are faulty and ungrammatical. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, including 'They no have money for buy food', 'most of people have not jobs', and 'what will be do the government'. Punctuation and capitalization errors, such as missing spaces after periods and lowercase 'i', also persist and contribute to difficulties for the reader.
