Student answer (Band 6.5)
The use of advanced technology has significantly increased the production of staple food. However, there are still a lot of people who are facing famine around the globe. There are several reasons for this issue, among which poor storage and transport infrastructure are the leading causes. Such problems can be solved with the cooperation of the state and international authorities.
With the use of modern and scientific methods, the agriculture sector is thriving at a marked pace. These advanced techniques used in agriculture have helped to increase crop and food production such as wheat and maize. However, the lack of sufficient transportation systems and storage facilities has severely affected the global supply chain. Political instabilities and ongoing conflicts have badly affected the networking systems. Furthermore, a large amount of these available crops get spoiled due to the unavailability of proper storage facilities. As a result, many underdeveloped countries are unable to import cheap food. This leads to catastrophic hunger across the population. To address these issues, the government and all international communities must invest in distribution chain. This will help in the consistent and sufficient availability of food across the world. For instance, the FAO must launch railway projects for transportation; it will support developing nations to meet their demands. In addition, national organizations must focus on the development of their storage facilities because it is necessary during times when food products are not available, which will also stop the wastage of crops.
In conclusion, the agriculture sector has sufficiently developed to meet global food demands, but weak distribution networks can stop many developing states from reaching them. So to solve the issues, governments need to focus on constructing roads and railways.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the reasons behind global hunger and offering actionable solutions. However, the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, while the causes of food spoilage due to poor storage are mentioned, they are not fully extended with deep explanation. Ideas such as political instability are touched upon briefly without exploring how they directly disrupt agricultural supply chains. The position is clear throughout, and the main ideas remain relevant to the prompt, but a greater depth of support and more fully fleshed-out examples would be needed to move into higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as using 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'As a result'. However, some cohesive referencing feels slightly mechanical or abrupt, preventing the essay from achieving a truly smooth flow. For example, the transition between discussing transportation systems and political instabilities could be managed with more sophisticated linking to elevate the organizational quality further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'staple food', 'global supply chain', and 'catastrophic hunger'. There are occasional inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as using 'networking systems' instead of transport networks, or 'distribution chain' instead of distribution chains. Nevertheless, these lexical choices and minor slips do not impede communication. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, showing sufficient control to convey the intended meaning effectively throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses effectively (e.g., 'when food products are not available, which will also stop...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions or minor pluralization slips (e.g., 'the government and all international communities must invest in distribution chain'), but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure the meaning. The control over sentence boundaries and verb tenses reflects a solid intermediate command of English grammar.
