Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary world, there are many technological advancements that have been made in agricultural sector, still many individuals around the world go hungry. The main reason behind this is uneven distribution and food often unafforable for the poor people; however, there are certain measures to solve this problem.

The major reason due to which there is a scarcity of food in many nations is uneven distribution of resources and food products around the world. This is to say that, despit the progress of agriculture sectors, there are many countries in the world, where there is no food because of the lack of availablity of resources. Moreover, there is adequate amount of food available to fulfill everyone's need bute its quite expensive. As a result, disadvantaged group cannot afford it and go hungry.

However, this problem can be solved by supplying the food product the undeveloped countries, where there is inadequacy of resources. To clarify, if wealthy nations will export the surplus food grains to the countries in need. So, they can enough for fulfilling their requirements. In addition, governement can assist people by providing food on affordable prices. What I mean to say is that if authorities will provide essentials to the population on lower rates, then poor people can also afford the things they need.

In conlusion, despite the advancements in agricultural sector, prople still stay hungry beacuse of uneven distribution of resources and high prices which people cannot afford. From my perspective, this problem may be solved by exporting the goods to other nations and if food will be available on affordable prices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying reasons for hunger, such as uneven distribution and high prices, and suggesting solutions like food exports and government price controls. However, some ideas remain under-developed. For instance, the explanation regarding the scarcity of resources lacks specific examples or deeper exploration. The position is generally clear throughout the essay, but the limited development of the supporting points keeps the response at this level. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to extend their ideas more fully with well-supported arguments and relevant examples rather than relying on generalised statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the four-paragraph structure is appropriate for an academic task. Information and ideas are generally sequenced logically, and the writer attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'moreover', 'however', and 'to clarify'. However, cohesion can feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the dangling clause 'so, they can enough for fulfilling their requirements'. Progression is visible between the body paragraphs, but to achieve a higher band, the transitions between sentences must be smoother and cohesive devices should be applied with greater flexibility and naturalness without over-relying on basic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to discuss agricultural advancements and global food distribution. There are noticeable lexical errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'unafforable' instead of 'unaffordable', 'despit' instead of 'despite', 'availablity' instead of 'availability', and 'bute' instead of 'but'. Word choice is sometimes strained, as seen in phrases like 'supplying the food product the undeveloped countries' and 'on lower rates'. While the meaning is generally communicated despite these slips, the limited range and frequent errors prevent the response from reaching a higher lexical band. Incorporating less common vocabulary with greater accuracy and precision would enhance this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures. However, frequent grammatical errors occur, particularly in sentence fragments and incomplete clauses, such as 'So, they can enough for fulfilling their requirements' and 'if food will be available on affordable prices.' There are also errors in prepositions and articles, such as 'in agricultural sector' instead of 'in the agricultural sector' and 'on affordable prices' instead of 'at affordable prices'. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to distinguish this level from higher bands where error-free sentences predominate. Better control over complex grammatical patterns and proofreading for structural completeness are needed.
