Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons behind global hunger and offering viable solutions, which aligns with the requirements of the prompt. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the explanation regarding uniform crop production and weather impacts is presented clearly, but the supporting examples, such as the mention of Pakistan in 2024, remain somewhat brief and could be extended further. The writer establishes a clear position throughout the essay and maintains relevance to the topic from the introduction to the conclusion, showing partial elements of higher task response bands through a cohesive focus on the prompt's core questions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Ideas are logically sequenced, moving from the causes of hunger in the second paragraph to solutions in the third. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Firstly', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to group related ideas together, satisfying the requirements of a solid mid-level band while pointing toward clearer progression with more varied transitional phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'catastrophic natural events', 'fertility of soil', and 'agriculturists'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that recur throughout the text, including 'debateable' instead of debatable, 'fullfil' instead of fulfill, 'starying' or 'starving', 'hitted' instead of hit, and 'measurements' instead of measures. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score, reflecting a vocabulary control that fits comfortably within the middle tier.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay utilizes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordinate clauses and relative structures like 'seeds which can be grown in the extreme weather'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly concerning articles ('the advancement in the agriculture', 'the great challenge'), subject-verb agreement ('botanist should', 'farmer do not'), and prepositions or pluralization ('two time meal'). While these structures do not completely obscure the meaning, the frequency of grammatical slips keeps the accuracy level constrained, showing a need for tighter control over basic sentence mechanics.
