Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, finishing at only 170 words. Furthermore, the content only partially addresses the task prompts. Rather than explaining why people still go hungry despite agricultural advances and suggesting solutions, the essay provides irrelevant template-like phrases and contradictory statements, such as 'In my opinion, the advances made in agriculture has more advantages and disadvantages.' The position is entirely unclear, and the ideas presented are extremely limited, repetitive, and under-developed throughout the text.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is some organisation attempted through basic paragraphing and linking words like 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'However', but these cohesive devices are inaccurate, repetitive, and often applied inappropriately given the context of the sentences. The overall progression lacks clarity and logical flow. For instance, transitional phrases introduce contradictory or disconnected thoughts, such as 'However, there are also some drawbacks to this trend. On the other hand, some people believe...' which disrupts the coherence of the essay and makes the overall arrangement confusing for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for expressing basic thoughts, featuring repetitive phrases such as 'this topic', 'important topic', and 'around the world'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'unequal distribution of food' appearing as an isolated fragment rather than part of a complete clause. While the vocabulary allows the writer to touch upon the subject matter, the restricted range and occasional inappropriate word combinations cause some difficulty for the reader in following the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic, repetitive templates. When the writer attempts more complex formulations, frequent errors occur, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'the advances made in agriculture has' and major structural breakdown in 'this cannot helps people improve'. Furthermore, the response trails off into incomplete sentence fragments towards the end, such as 'many people nowadays prefer climate change can destroy crops'. These frequent grammatical errors cause significant difficulty and confusion for the reader.
