Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now-a-days, due to advancement in agriculture many people all over the world are still hungry. It is not only because of unequal distribution of resources but also due to lack of government interest. The problem can only be solved by concentration of government and providing equal resources.

Although agriculture has been advanced but there are many causes that people still do not have food. Firstly, the major cause is unequal distribution of human resources. As we are all different in qualities and our lives. For instance, in South Africa it is reported in news journal that most of people have still no enough food just because of misconduct of resources.

Secondly, another cause for hunger in this world is poor government policies and their focus. As they are focusing on betterment of thier own lives without considering their duty. Take an example of Korea Republic, where it is estimated that the death rate will be increased to about 60% just because of lack of food and government concerns.

These issues can be solved by dividing human resources equally and giving rights to everyone equally. As if people and equal resources they will be able to eat. Another solution for this problem is that government should introduce policies for food for poor people and raise funds to them which will result in welfare of poors. As government contribution means alot to any public concern.

To sum up, there is much hunger still exist due to resources management and lack of policies but can be overcome by policies advancement and eual finance distribution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying causes of global hunger, such as unequal resource distribution and poor government policies, and proposing solutions like equal resource division and targeted welfare policies. However, the development of these ideas is limited and under-developed, keeping the response at this band. For instance, the example regarding South Africa is vague and lacks sufficient supporting detail to fully illustrate the point about human resources. Similarly, the mention of Korea Republic is generalised and lacks clear elaboration. To reach the next level, the writer needs to extend their ideas with more specific, well-supported explanations and clearer examples that directly reinforce the central arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, using introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs appropriately. Ideas are sequenced logically, moving from causes in the body paragraphs to solutions. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear. For example, the transitional markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' are used, but cohesive devices within and between sentences are occasionally repetitive or over-used, such as starting multiple sentences with 'As'. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that referencing pronouns clearly link back to their intended antecedents without causing ambiguity for the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items related to agriculture and governance, such as 'advancement', 'distribution', and 'welfare'. However, the range is limited and there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. For example, the phrase 'misconduct of resources' is an unnatural collocation, and the terms 'poors' and 'eual' demonstrate word form and spelling issues. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use less common lexical items with greater precision, and pay closer attention to natural word partnerships and correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms alongside attempts at complex sentences. These complex structures are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. For instance, errors appear in articles ('most of people have still no enough food'), prepositions ('raise funds to them'), and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in compound and complex sentences where clauses are awkwardly joined. To progress, the writer should practice forming more complex sentences accurately, ensure correct article usage and prepositions, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
