Student answer (Band 6.0)
Even though significant progress had been made in agriculture, still many people starve worldwide. The major reasons affecting could be the geographical location and the political confilicts. One of the solution to this problem could be the proper distribution of food.
Agriculture being the major source of distribution, sometimes, lack the proper amounts to satiate an individuals hunger. The significant cause for these could be the improper food distribution in the rural areas, where a lack of a transportation infrastructure make it unavailable to supply. Additionally, political wars between countries leads to stoppage of food contribution further increasing the associated costs to the remaining items. For instance, a war between countries makes it difficult for ordinary individuals with weaker financial background to buy basic survival food, thus, leading to starvation.
However, proper initiatives could really resolve this situation at the time of emergency. For rural areas with a low connectivity to markets, a maintained road structure should be installed for transportation. Moreover, weekly wholesale markets could really help in making the situation better. For situations revolving around political disagreements leading to war, a proper storage or containment areas should be installed. These food storages could turn beneficial if the unfavourable situations sustains for a longer period of time.
In conclusion, a human being living in a country has no control over the political decisions or the geographical locations for the distribution of supplies, however, a backup plan should be planned for situations if they arise. These could be simply by installing storage containers in areas or even markets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying causes, such as geographical location and political conflicts, and offering solutions like proper food distribution and storage infrastructure. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the discussion on rural areas and transportation is introduced but remains somewhat under-developed, lacking specific examples of how infrastructure directly impacts crop availability. The position is generally clear throughout, but the arguments could be extended further with more robust supporting details to reach a higher level of task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from causes in the first body paragraph to solutions in the second. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, dividing the introduction, causes, solutions, and conclusion into distinct sections. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Additionally' and 'However', though referencing is occasionally mechanical or slightly unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'if they arise' in the conclusion. To move towards higher bands, the writer could employ more flexible and subtle cohesive ties between sentences and ensure seamless transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'infrastructure', 'satiate', and 'containment areas'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocations, such as 'political confilicts' (spelling error) and 'stoppage of food contribution' instead of 'aid' or 'supplies'. There are also minor slips in word formation, like 'One of the solution' instead of 'solutions'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score, as precision and stylistic awareness remain inconsistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as concessive clauses ('Even though significant progress had been made...') and conditional-style constructions. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('still many people starve' and 'a lack of a transportation infrastructure make') and tense inconsistencies ('had been made' instead of 'has been made'). Although these errors are present, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended message despite the lack of consistent grammatical control.
