Student answer (Band 6.5)

Despite major advances in modern farming technology, millions of people aroound the world still suffer from hunger everyday. This is a complex problem caused by several factors, but there are practical solutions that governmnets and international organizations can take to solve it.

There are some primary reasons, why people still sufer from hunger. First, poor food distribution is a major issue. Many development nations introduced more than enough food, but huge amounts are wasted during transport and thrown away by supermarkets or customer. Meanwhile, developing countries lack proper storage facilities, roads, transports systems to get food to the people who need it most. Second, proverty and economic inquality prevent people from buying food. Even when markets are full of food, poor families often cannot afford basic staples like rice or wheat due to rising prices and low wages. Furthermore, ongoin conflicts and extreme weathers events caused by climate change frequently destory the crops and displace communities, making the situation worse.

To get out these kind of events, need some infrastructure and reduce food waste. Government should invest in better roads, clod storage, and logistics in rural areas so that harvested food does not spoil before reaching markets. Providing modern seend to the local farmers with some advanced equipment, and training will increase food production directly in vulnerable communities. Governments should implement food assistance and programs and price controls on basic food items to ensure that low income families can always afford nutritious meals.

In conclusion, global hunger is not caused by a lack of food, but by unequally distribution, poverty and waste. By improving supply chains and supporting low-income population, world leaders can ensure everyone has access to sufficient food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear overall position: hunger persists because food is inaccessible or wasted rather than simply unavailable, and governments can improve distribution and affordability. The causes are relevant and reasonably extended, particularly the contrast between food waste in wealthier countries and inadequate storage and transport elsewhere. The proposed investment in roads and cold storage also follows logically from this explanation. However, some solutions are less fully explained: providing seeds and equipment is mentioned, but the response does not show how this would reach vulnerable farmers or address the other causes, such as conflict and climate-related crop losses. A specific example or further explanation of these links would make the support more convincing and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear four-paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to causes, solutions and a conclusion. Its progression is easy to follow, and signposting such as “First,” “Second,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” helps readers identify the stages of the argument. The contrast between food being wasted in some places and inaccessible in others is also presented in a logical sequence. Some connections are less smooth, especially the opening of the solutions paragraph, “To get out these kind of events,” which does not clearly link the proposed actions to the causes discussed. The list of solutions could also be grouped or connected more explicitly—for example, distinguishing measures that improve supply from those that improve affordability. Clearer transitions and references would make cohesion more flexible and less dependent on formulaic markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response uses an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “food distribution,” “storage facilities,” “basic staples,” “price controls” and “supply chains.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show attempts to use language suited to an academic discussion. However, some spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision, as in “proverty,” “inquality,” “destory” and “unequally distribution.” There are also awkward or unclear combinations such as “development nations introduced more than enough food” and “get out these kind of events.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they show that less common vocabulary is not always controlled accurately. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations in context to make the language more natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay includes both simple sentences and more complex forms, such as the sentence beginning “Even when markets are full of food” and the clause “making the situation worse.” This variety helps explain causes and consequences, and the main message remains clear despite some grammatical errors. For example, “To get out these kind of events, need some infrastructure” lacks a clear subject and has an incomplete construction; it could be revised as “To address these problems, governments need to invest in infrastructure.” In “Government should invest,” the singular noun needs an article or plural form, and “families often cannot afford” is more accurate than a construction with mismatched agreement. Review sentence completeness, articles and agreement, while retaining the complex structures already attempted.
