Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that despite the technological and agricultural development many people are still unable to eat and fulfill their needs. This can be due to various emerging factors including unequal distribution of food and food supplies being expensive. These problems can be solved by taking useful measures including proper distribution of food supplies among families according to their needs and introducing new regulatory measures.

On the one hand, despite advancements in agriculture several individuals still die of hunger and malnutition due to unequal distribution of food. Food supplies are usually transported to capital cities which already have food in surplus amount, so remote areas may have limited access to these supplies. Therefore, they may face shortage of food. Moreover, even when food is readily available in markets some individuals may not be able to afford it because of their low incomes. People who are poor may not earn enough money to buy nutritious food. As a result, they resort to consuming unhealthy and cheaper food options. To illustrate, some people who live in remote areas become malnourished because they cannot afford sufficient nutritious food.

On the other hand, these problems can be resolved by taking useful measures. Governments should make laws to ensure proper distribution of food among the individuals. These should make sure that food supplies are being distributed according to the needs of the family. In this way they would get better access to food. Thus, less hunger would spread throughout the world. Furthermore, governments should try to provide financial assisstance as much as possible to poorer families. This would enable them to buy food with sufficient nutritions according to their needs. As a result, this would help them to afford enough food and to improve their standard of living. For instance, if nations become responsible in helping some families, then they can improve their lives by giving them financial assisstance and in this way those families can become capable of acquiring healthy food.

In conclusion, although these challenges are widespread in the world, still it does not mean that they cannot be improved. They can be reduced by taking useful and helpful measures including, by introducing laws and distributing the food fairly among all the individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions: it identifies unequal distribution and affordability as causes, then proposes fairer allocation and financial support. The position is clear, and the examples about remote communities and poorer families help make the discussion relevant. However, some ideas are more fully explained than others. The account of transport to capital cities gives a plausible mechanism, while the affordability point and proposed government assistance remain fairly general; the final example largely repeats the same financial-support idea rather than adding a distinct illustration. To strengthen the response, explain how a measure could work in practice—for example, targeted food subsidies or investment in local storage and transport—and connect it directly to the cause it addresses. This would make the development more consistently complete and precise while retaining the clear overall response already present.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: the introduction previews causes and solutions, the two body paragraphs separate these functions, and the conclusion returns to the central argument. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “Moreover,” and “As a result” help readers follow the sequence, and the examples are placed where they support the relevant point. Cohesion is generally effective, though some transitions and references are repetitive or slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “As a result” and “This would.” In “These should make sure,” the reference to “These” is not fully clear because it could refer to laws or governments. Use more precise referencing and vary the links between ideas; this would make the progression feel more flexible and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for discussing hunger and policy, with relevant terms such as “unequal distribution,” “remote areas,” “nutritious food,” and “financial assistance.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and there is some attempt to use more formal language. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “food in surplus amount,” “sufficient nutritions,” and “hunger would spread.” Spelling errors such as “malnutition” and “assisstance” also reduce accuracy. Some wording is repetitive, especially “useful measures” and “food supplies.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise policy vocabulary, while checking spelling and word forms. This would give the discussion greater flexibility and accuracy without changing its clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses in “because of their low incomes” and conditional phrasing in “if nations become responsible.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely obstruct the message. Some grammatical and punctuation issues persist, however. In “These should make sure,” the subject reference is unclear, and “food supplies are being distributed” is an awkward passive construction in this context; “food supplies are distributed” would be more direct. The sentence beginning “In conclusion” also has an unnecessary comma after “including,” which disrupts the structure. There are occasional article and number-form problems, as in “according to the needs of the family” when discussing families generally. Review agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation, and aim for more consistently controlled complex sentences.
