Student answer (Band 6.5)

Although modern agriculture has developed significantly and food production has increased, millions of people around the world continue to suffer from hunger. This essay will discuss the main reasons for this concern and suggest some possible solutions.

There are several factors why hunger remain a serious global issue. The primary one is poverty. To describe more, humans living in developed countries are not able to buy nutritious food due to lack of money, even when food is available in their region. For example, people with less income may not be capable to buy healthy food for their family as food containing healthy nutrients is quiet expensive. Secondly, natural disasters such as floods and droughts can reduce agriculture production. An important factor is an unequal distribution of food. Some countries produce large amounts of food, while poorer regions may lack the infrastructure needed for storage or transport it effectively.

Several measures can be taken to address this consequences. Governments should invest on modern agriculture techniques, irrigation system and agricultural education so that farmers can produce food effectively. Furthermore, developed countries and international organization should also provide financial and technical assistance to poorer nations. Apart from these, well constructed roads, storage system and transportation would prevent food from being wasted and ensure that it reaches people in need. Finally, policy makers should reduce poverty by creating job opportunities and improving access to education.

To sum up, major reasons for hunger concerns are poverty, environmental disturbances and unequal distribution of food. However, investment by higher authorities, support from international companies and elimination of poverty are some solutions to tackling the problem globally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions: it identifies poverty, natural disasters and unequal food distribution as causes, then proposes agricultural investment, international assistance, better transport and poverty reduction. The opening and conclusion also maintain a clear focus on the problem. Several points are relevant but not equally developed, however. The poverty example is explained, though the reference to people in “developed countries” seems inconsistent with the wider point about hunger and could be clarified. Natural disasters and unequal distribution are listed with little explanation of how they leave people without food. The solutions are also mostly presented as a list. To strengthen the response, explain the links between each cause and hunger, and develop one or two solutions with a specific example or outcome.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear four-part structure: introduction, causes, solutions and conclusion. The progression from explaining why hunger persists to suggesting responses is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore” and “To sum up” help guide the reader. Paragraphing is appropriate, and the main ideas are grouped logically. Some linking is a little mechanical, with several points introduced in sequence rather than connected through explanation. For example, the causes paragraph moves from poverty to disasters and then distribution without showing how these factors relate. The phrase “Apart from these” also refers back somewhat vaguely. Use clearer referencing and add transitions that explain relationships between ideas, rather than relying mainly on list-like connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response uses an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “food production,” “nutritious food,” “infrastructure,” “irrigation” and “financial and technical assistance.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word-choice and collocation errors reduce precision: “humans living in developed countries” does not fit the intended point, “agriculture production” is unnatural, and “support from international companies” may not accurately describe the assistance discussed. There are also awkward phrases such as “address this consequences” and “food containing healthy nutrients.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms, and check word forms and spelling, including “quiet” where “quite” is intended. The meaning remains understandable despite these slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “Although modern agriculture has developed significantly…” and a relative clause in “food containing healthy nutrients.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and punctuation generally supports the organisation. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles and prepositions. For example, “hunger remain” should have a singular verb, while “invest on modern agriculture techniques” needs a different preposition. “An unequal distribution” is followed by “this consequences,” which also has a number mismatch. These errors rarely prevent understanding, but they show that control is not yet consistent. Proofread for subject–verb agreement and singular/plural consistency, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
