Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that despite of farming advances and progress, hunger persist. There is not one cause to this problem, rather there are multiple issues which contributes to hunger.

Everyday hundreds of thousand people, starve from the inadequate food supply to them. Causes such as poverty, unequal distribution of resources, malnourishment, large families, famine and low income households are some of the major issues that leads to starvation, even after the fact that neccessary amount of agricultural advances are taking place. But this issue cannot be solved by rectifying the agricultural issues, but by understanding the overall situation and wider problems that can be reversed in order to eliminate hunger issues. Food exist but the poverty and unequal distribution stops it to reach people. For instance, people with low standard of living cannot afford adequate three time meals everyday and this problem is mostly faced by people who reside in rural areas. In a country like India people live in large families and and a joint family norm is follwed, but the bread winner of the family is usually just one person which results in overburdening them to earn a better livelihood for his family which so on results in problems like inadequency of food in an household.

Proper survelliance about people's requirement and identifying the needs of particular nutrients in a geographical area can be one of the initiative which can be implemented by the goverment. Poverty cannot be completely eradicated but schemes such as mid-day meal program and monthly ration schemes are few national health schemes which are introduced to the general public who are below poverty level who cannot afford basic neccessity like food in India. Proper health checkups can also be done to identify anemic mothers and malnourished children and provide proper nutritional diets to them through health centers. There is also a scarcity of infertile land and sufficient water supply in few places around the world, in order to improve agricultural practices new reforms and chemicals can be used to preserve the quality of land.

In conclusion, Hunger is one of the major world problems in today's time and if neccessary measures are implemented then before the damage is beyond repair, by individuals as well as the governement then there is a possibilty of reducing hunger all over the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions: you identify causes such as poverty and unequal distribution, then suggest government monitoring, food schemes, health checks and agricultural reforms. The India example gives the discussion some concrete support, and your conclusion returns to the need for action. This meets the task well, with a clear overall focus. However, the causes are sometimes listed rather than explained: for example, “malnourishment” is named as a cause without showing how it contributes to hunger. Some proposed actions, such as using “new reforms and chemicals,” are also vague and would benefit from a clearer explanation of how they improve access to food or agricultural output. More consistent development and specific supporting examples would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. The progression from explaining why people lack food to proposing interventions is generally logical, and phrases such as “For instance” help introduce an example. However, the causes paragraph contains many points in quick succession, so the relationship between them is not always clear. The long sentence about joint families also combines several ideas and would be easier to follow if divided. Some links are mechanical or imprecise, including “But this issue” and “There is also,” while repeated references to “this problem” make connections less specific. Grouping related causes and solutions, and using clearer references between sentences, would improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “unequal distribution,” “inadequate food supply,” “malnourished children” and “nutritional diets.” These choices show an effort to discuss the issue beyond basic terms, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “hunger issues,” “three time meals,” “proper surveillance about people’s requirement” and “scarcity of infertile land.” Spelling errors, including “neccessary,” “survelliance” and “goverment,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “food insecurity,” “three meals a day,” and “monitoring people’s nutritional needs.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning “despite” and “in order to,” and most of the argument remains understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction recur. For example, “hunger persist” should be “hunger persists,” and “issues which contributes” should be “issues which contribute.” The sentence beginning “In a country like India” is especially difficult to control: it includes a repeated “and,” shifts from “people” to “them,” and runs several ideas together. There are also awkward constructions such as “stops it to reach people.” Review subject–verb agreement and build long sentences from clearly connected clauses; breaking complex ideas into shorter sentences would improve accuracy and readability.
