Student answer (Band 6.0)

Long ago, when humans initially started agriculture and farming ,they grew food mostly for their families and their locality or villages in small to medium scale . This happened before commercialization of agricultural goods took place and before globalization existed. During that time humans cultivated crops ,they used the yeild for self-consumption and stored the remaining for the dry season of the year.

As the Green revolution took place, crop yeild became higher then the amount required for self-consumption, due to the large scale production of high yeild variety of seeds, which led to farmers selling the outputs from their farms to the local market , in order to earn some money as they got a decent price for their crops . Globalization led to the evolution of large corporations manufacturing high yeild variety of seeds (HYV seeds) and other large corporations who started buying the crops from farmers . As capitalist economies became popular across the world, these corporations grew in size and began to control the markets and prices , hence a group of people who owned these businesses gained control of various supply chains.

All of these led to a uneven distribution of resources, because farmers lost the right to their own crops, and farming was rarely profitable and their income dropped. Various advancements in technology were made but only a few farmers who had resources and had a stable income from agriculture were able to access them. This number is only a minority of the entire farmer's population.

The right approach to this problem would be to ensure the proper distribution of resources between the famrers and the buyers of the crops . In addition to that , governaments can make sure that struggling farmers recieve access to new farming technology which could bring improvemnt to the farming and make it profitable for the farmers facing problems

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions by explaining why hunger persists and proposing ways to help farmers. The discussion of corporate control of supply chains, unequal resource distribution, and farmers’ reduced incomes gives the response a relevant central explanation. You also suggest fairer distribution of resources and access to technology. However, the causes receive much more development than the solutions: the proposed measures are brief, and it is not explained how they would improve food access for hungry people. Some claims, such as farmers losing the right to their crops, would benefit from clarification or a specific example. Develop the remedies and connect them more directly to hunger to make the response more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it moves from the history of farming to modern agricultural markets, then discusses consequences and possible remedies. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “As the Green revolution took place” and “In addition to that” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression is more chronological than directly focused on answering the two questions, and some connections are asserted rather than explained. For example, the link between corporate control and people going hungry could be made explicit. The final paragraph also combines two recommendations without showing how they relate. Use clearer topic sentences and more precise referencing to strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “Green revolution,” “globalization,” “supply chains,” “self-consumption,” and “uneven distribution of resources.” These terms help communicate the argument and show attempts to use less common language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, however: “high yeild variety of seeds” is repeated, while “farmers lost the right to their own crops” is unclear in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “yeild,” “famrers,” and “governaments,” which reduce accuracy. Choose more precise expressions for the mechanisms behind hunger and check spelling carefully; this would make the vocabulary more controlled and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “As the Green revolution took place” and “because farmers lost the right to their own crops.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “This happened before commercialization … took place” shifts awkwardly from the past narrative, and “a uneven distribution” has an article error. Several sentences also contain punctuation problems, such as missing spaces after commas and spaces before punctuation, which make the writing less controlled. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would help you express the relationships between causes and solutions clearly.
