Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's globalized world, poverty and hunger remain pressing issues. Despite the fact that substantial advances have been made in agriculture, poverty and hunger remain widespread problems worldwide. Critics believe that increasing population and lack of access to urban areas are the primary reasons behind this issue. Furthermore, to mitigate poverty global colloborations are required work on a pragmatic approach.
Hunger and starvation have long been a problem for many nations. Critics believe that increasing population is the impetus behind hunger. As of 2026, the global population is approximately 8.3 billion and it is continuously increasing. Countries like India and Pakistan have a very high birth rate. However, agriculture industry is unable to increase its supply according to the demand of people. Furthermore, healthcare organizations such as the WHO face significant challenges in reaching remote communities, particularly in parts of Africa due to laborious terrains and consistent backlash from the local communities.
Critics belive that to alleviate the problem governments should develop tangible strategies. One major way is to indroduce one-child policy which could be implemented across many countries. People who abide by this law should be given incentives and rewards. China is the most salient example for regulating population control through strict measures. In addition to that, there should be strong collaborations between health organizations and nations suffering from hunger and malnutrition to solve this pressing issue.
In a nutshell, while many advances have been made to overcome hunger worldwide. It still remain a crucial problem for many nation. Therefore, rigorous efforts are required by both governments and people to solve the problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both questions: it identifies population growth and difficulties reaching remote communities as causes, then proposes population-control measures and cooperation between governments and health organisations. These points are relevant, but the explanation is uneven and some claims are not sufficiently developed. For example, the link between population growth and agricultural supply is asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of WHO access to remote areas shifts toward healthcare without clearly showing how this contributes to hunger. The one-child policy is presented as a solution, but its suitability across different countries is not considered. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms behind each cause and solution, and support them with specific, relevant examples focused on food access and distribution.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and solutions, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through the response. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking phrases can feel mechanical: “Critics believe” is repeated to introduce different points, while “Furthermore” and “In addition to that” do not always clarify the relationship between ideas. The shift from population growth to WHO’s challenges also needs a clearer connection to the central issue of hunger. The conclusion begins with a sentence fragment-like construction (“while many advances have been made…”) and does not fully synthesise the argument. Use more precise transitions and make each paragraph develop one connected line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “pressing issues,” “alleviate,” “malnutrition,” and “tangible strategies.” These choices show an attempt to use less common and more formal language, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some wording is imprecise or unnatural, such as “lack of access to urban areas” when discussing hunger, “laborious terrains,” and “backlash from the local communities.” There are also spelling errors, including “colloborations,” “belive,” and “indroduce,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise topic vocabulary and natural collocations—for example, distinguish food production from people’s access to food, and describe difficult terrain or community resistance directly. Proofreading would also help correct spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “Despite the fact that…” and “while many advances have been made…”. Most sentences remain understandable, and grammatical errors rarely prevent the reader from following the main points. Some errors nevertheless affect accuracy: “it still remain a crucial problem” needs subject–verb agreement, and “many nation” requires a plural noun. The final paragraph also uses a full stop after “worldwide” where the opening clause should be joined to the main clause. There are occasional awkward sentence constructions, including “collaborations are required work on a pragmatic approach.” Practise checking agreement, clause boundaries, and complete sentence structure, while retaining the complex forms you already attempt.
