Student answer (Band 6.5)
One of the most pressing issue facing modern society is that despite of development in agriculture, public across the world face the problem of food scarcity. This essay will examine the principal challenges related with this issue and suggest suitable solutions to alleviate them.
One of the major problems is that agricultural advancements did not give benefits to society. Firstly, poverty prevents people from purchasing food. Although foods are available in markets, individuals are unable to buy them because of their low income and financial instability. Secondly, food is not equally distributed in an increasingly globalized world. Some developed countries have better transportation and food storage system, while other developing nations do not have sufficient resources to deliver food to their populations. Moreover, natural disasters such as earthquake, flood and drought causes problems for peasants and as a result they face significant decline in agricultural production. For instance, severe flooding leaves various nations with insufficient food resources.
To tackle all these challenges numerous measures can be taken. Initially, authorities should provide financial assistance and affordable food to low income families. This would help underprivilieged sectors to meet their basic nutritional needs. Furthermore, governments should improve food storage and transportation facilities to reduce food waste and deliver food to the areas facing food shortages problem. Additionally, farmers should provide with high quality equipments, better seeds and training in farming methods. International organizations must help countries facing food lack problems by provide emergency food suplies and financial aid.
In conclusion, hunger continues to effect millions of people in spite of technological advancements in agriculture due to poverty, transportation and many other problems. However, state should do efforts to minimize the effects of this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both questions: it identifies poverty, unequal distribution and natural disasters as reasons for hunger, then proposes assistance for low-income families, better infrastructure, support for farmers and international aid. The opening and conclusion also maintain a clear focus on the issue. This meets the task well, and the range of relevant causes and solutions shows some breadth. However, several points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the link between agricultural advances and who benefits from them could be clarified, and the flooding example is general rather than showing how a particular event leads to food insecurity. The final recommendation that the state should “do efforts” is also not developed. Explain the mechanisms and add specific supporting examples to make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph presenting solutions, and a conclusion. The progression within the body paragraphs is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help readers distinguish the points. This is a coherent overall arrangement with logical progression. At times, however, the linking is somewhat mechanical because several points begin with similar sequencing words. Some connections could also be made more explicit: the paragraph moves from poverty to distribution and then disasters without explaining how these causes interact. The conclusion repeats the main ideas but adds little synthesis. Vary transitions and use clearer references between related points to make cohesion more flexible and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The response uses an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “food scarcity,” “financial instability,” “food storage,” “agricultural production,” and “nutritional needs.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and there are attempts to use more formal language. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “challenges related with,” “food shortages problem,” “food lack problems,” and “do efforts.” Spelling errors in “underprivilieged,” “equipments,” and “suplies” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Focus on standard collocations and check spelling; also avoid using “food” repeatedly where terms such as “hunger,” “food insecurity,” or “supplies” would fit.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “Although” and “while,” and a conditional result in “This would help…” The meaning is generally clear, and the writer can communicate several connected ideas in longer sentences. Some grammatical errors remain, however. The opening has agreement and article problems in “One of the most pressing issue,” and “despite of” uses an incorrect construction. In “natural disasters … causes,” the verb does not agree with its plural subject; “farmers should provide with” is missing a passive form or an object; and “by provide” needs a gerund. Articles and plurals also need attention in phrases such as “food storage system.” Proofread sentence patterns and subject–verb agreement while retaining the range of complex structures.
