Student answer (Band 6.0)

Although there are many new technological inventions in agricultural practices, majority of residence around the globe are still facing the problem of starvation.

One of the main cause relating to this issue is that some people are unable to approach towards the available food near to their locations, as a result there is less amount of food to be consumed, which makes them hungry. Furthermore, some people cannot afford the cost which are put on the grains and cereals, this makes the food out of their reach. For instance, people in Dubai are frustrated by the prices of vegetables such as onions and tomatoes, which indirectly let them to stop buying them. If food is not reached to the consumers then they might have a feeling of hunger.

However, these problems can be minimized with the implementation of certain steps such as increasing transport facilities in the rural areas, which helps them to reach to local markets near to their homes and get something to eat. Moreover, government should try to introduce some schemes such as mid-day meals which provides one time meal to the needy people. For example, in Telangana government have started meals at just rupees 2, so as to make it affordable for each person living in the state, this helps them to get food for three courses of the day and sleep with their full stomachs.

In conclusion, solutions such as increased transportation and introduction of government feeding schemes helps to tackle problems to starvation such as outreach of food and increased wages on the food items. These problems can be effectively minimized if government look after the policies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: you identify barriers to accessing food and affordability as causes, then suggest better rural transport and government meal schemes. The Telangana example gives the proposed support a concrete context. However, some ideas are not fully explained. The claim that people cannot reach food “near to their locations” is unclear, and the Dubai example focuses on vegetable prices without showing how this relates to widespread hunger. The response would be stronger if it explained broader causes—such as poverty, conflict, or unequal distribution—and showed more clearly how each proposed measure would reduce hunger. Your conclusion restates the solutions, but its reference to “increased wages on the food items” does not clearly match the causes discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions, and a conclusion. The progression from problem to response is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, several links feel mechanical, and some references are unclear. For example, “this makes the food out of their reach” and “these problems” do not always specify which problem is meant. The cause paragraph would also benefit from clearer links between limited access, prices, and hunger. Use more precise referencing and connect examples directly to the point they illustrate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “agricultural practices,” “starvation,” “transport facilities,” and “feeding schemes,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “grains and cereals” and “mid-day meals.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “majority of residence” appears to mean most residents, “approach towards the available food” is unclear, and “increased wages on the food items” does not express the intended idea. Some phrases, including “something to eat” and “full stomachs,” are also informal for this essay. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “access food,” “food prices,” and “food insecurity,” and check word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “although,” “as a result,” and “which.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the response shows an effort to connect causes and consequences within sentences. Some grammatical errors nevertheless reduce accuracy. For example, “One of the main cause” needs a plural noun, while “government should” and “government look” need an article or plural agreement depending on the intended meaning. In “schemes … which provides,” the verb does not agree with its plural subject. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “in Telangana government have started.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause boundaries, and aim to produce more consistently accurate complex sentences.
