Student answer (Band 7.0)

Despite significant advances in agriculture, million of people around the world continue to suffer from hunger. In my opinion, this problem is mainly caused by poverty and the unequal distribution of food. However, governments and international organisations can address it by improving food distributions system and providing financial support to vulnerable communities.

One major reason why people still experience hunger is that many families cannot afford sufficient food. Although, modern farming methods have increased agricultural production, food is not equally accessible to everyone. People living in poverty may lack stable employment and enough income to purchase nutritious meals. In addition, wars, natural disasters, and extreme weather conditions can disrupt food supplies and prevent farmers from producing or transporting crops. For example, a drought may destroy crops in a poor region, leaving local families without enough food and making prices unaffordable. As a result, hunger can continue even when other parts of the world produce more than enough food.

One effective way to address this problem is for governments to improve food distribution and support low-income households. Governments can provide emergency food assistance, introduce financial support programmes, and invest in transportation and storage facilities to reduce food waste. for instance, surplus food from farms and supermarket could be distributed to food banks and disadvantaged communities instead of being thrown away. Furthermore, international organisations can provide assistance to countries affected by conflicts or natural disaster. These measure would help to ensure that food reaches people who need it most that vulnerable families can obtain sufficient nutrition.

In conclusion, hunger continue despite agricultural progress because poverty, unequal food distribution, and disruptions to food supplies prevent many people from obtaining enough food. Governments and organisations could improve distributions systems, and reduce food waste, and support.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear position: poverty and unequal access are identified as causes, while government support, better distribution and international assistance are proposed as solutions. The explanation that low incomes prevent families from buying food is relevant, and the drought example shows how supply disruptions can worsen hunger. These ideas are extended with practical measures such as food banks and storage facilities. To strengthen the response further, develop the causes and solutions with more specific explanation or examples; for instance, clarify how conflict disrupts transport or how a particular support programme could improve access. The conclusion also becomes unclear at the end, where the proposed actions are left unfinished, so it does not fully consolidate the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. The progression from poverty and disrupted supplies to practical interventions is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “In addition,” “As a result,” and “Furthermore” help connect points. Paragraphing is appropriate and each body paragraph has a central focus. However, some connections are less controlled: “These measure would help to ensure that food reaches people who need it most that vulnerable families…” lacks a clear link between its two clauses. The final sentence also strings together proposed actions and ends abruptly. More precise sentence-level linking and a complete conclusion would make cohesion consistently effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The response uses a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “agricultural production,” “nutritious meals,” “food supplies,” “financial support programmes,” and “transportation and storage facilities.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and phrases such as “vulnerable communities” show some flexibility beyond basic vocabulary. At the same time, several word-form, spelling and collocation errors reduce precision: “million of people,” “food distributions system,” “natural disaster,” and “improve distributions systems” are not accurately formed. “Food distribution system” and “natural disasters” would be more natural in these contexts. Proofreading these details and choosing precise collocations would help the otherwise relevant vocabulary sound more controlled and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “Although modern farming methods have increased agricultural production…” and the conditional example “A drought may destroy crops…”. Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “Although,” is incorrectly followed by a comma, “hunger continue” needs subject–verb agreement, and “These measure would help” requires a plural noun form. The final sentence also has faulty coordination: “could improve…, and reduce…, and support” does not form a complete, clear construction. Aim to check agreement, clause boundaries and parallel structures, especially in the conclusion. Greater accuracy in these areas would complement the range of structures already attempted.
