Student answer (Band 5.5)

Agriculture has improved due to the modern technology and farming methods, millions of people around the world still suffer from huger. This essay will discuss the main reson of this problem and sugest some possible solution.

To begin with, there are several reason why hunger remain a serious issue. Firstly, the main reaon is povety, many people can not buy a sufficant food even when it is available in market, especially in africa contenant. For instance, survey show that the fifty thousaand of children and young individuals die in burandi because availability of food. In addition, there government is the most corrupt and not takecare of their citizens. Secondly, a large amount of food is waste in resturants, hotels and shopping malls, while people in their city struggle to find enough to eat. Furthermore, wars, natural disaster and climate change can damage the crop and prevent farmers for producing food, and many families face shortage of food.

However, governent should provide a financial support to low income families and insure that basic food items remain affordable. Better storage and transporation facilities should be developed to prevent food from being wasted and deliver it where it needs. Additionally, governemtn shoudl also invest in modern farming equipment, irriragtion system and farmer educton to help them to increase their production. Therefore, international organization should provide urgent food supplies to countires affected by wars, drought and natrual disaster becuase globlisation is essential to prevent unconditional circumstances.

In conclusion, hunger continue to exist mainly because of corrupt governemt and irresponsible citizen. Government can provide financial support to families and enhance argrculture equipment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both questions: it identifies poverty, food waste, conflict and environmental damage as causes, then proposes financial support, improved storage and transport, investment in farming, and emergency food aid. These are relevant ideas, and the Burundi example attempts to support the discussion. However, several points are asserted rather than explained: the link between corruption and hunger is brief, and the example about children dying is unclear and not connected convincingly to the stated cause. The solutions are also listed with limited explanation of how they would work. The conclusion identifies government action but narrows the causes to corruption and irresponsible citizens, leaving out other causes discussed. Develop and connect the examples and explanations more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “However” help distinguish the main stages of the argument. This clear organisation meets the lower-band expectations and shows some stronger control. However, the repeated listing of points means progression within paragraphs is not always fully developed. The sentence beginning “Firstly, the main reaon is povety” joins several ideas without clear separation, and “Furthermore” introduces another cause without explaining its relationship to the previous point. Use clearer sentence boundaries and link each example directly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate its main ideas, including “food waste,” “climate change,” “irrigation system,” and “financial support.” It also attempts more specific language such as “storage and transportation facilities” and “international organization.” However, the range is limited and many spelling errors make the writing less clear, including “huger,” “povety,” “contaient,” and “governemtn.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a sufficant food,” “prevent farmers for producing food,” and “unconditional circumstances.” These errors sometimes require the reader to infer the intended meaning. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common combinations such as “food shortages,” “prevent farmers from producing crops,” and “extreme conditions.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to use both simple and more complex structures, including clauses introduced by “even when,” “while,” and “because,” as well as a passive construction in “should be developed.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but control is inconsistent. The opening sentence is a comma splice: “Agriculture has improved …, millions of people …” and needs a conjunction or a full stop. Other examples include “there are several reason” and “hunger remain,” where plural agreement is missing, and “government should provide a financial support,” where the article pattern is incorrect. Some sentence structures are also incomplete or awkwardly joined. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread complex sentences to ensure each clause is grammatically complete.
