Student answer (Band 6.0)

Despite significant advancements in agricultural practice, many individuals across the globe still face severe food shortage. This problem is attributed to multiple factors ranging from economic instability t lack of government intervention in food supply. This can be tackled if proper consideration is given to the problem at its root cause.

Although, agriculture has experienced many reasonable advancements lately leading to improvement in the crop production globally. However, despite numerous advancements many people around the globe are dying of hunger. For example people of Ghana are dying of lack of food despite the country being rich in gold mines. This is mainly because of the economic disparity with wealthy people having access to better food items. Families at the lower end of strata are still struggling to meet their both ends meet. Another reason for this is the lack of government initiatives to provide food schemes for poor households at a mass level.

To bring an effective change in this regard, it is imperative for governments to launch some reasonable schemes to provide basic food items to under previliged families. Another significant change could be made in the education system where development of technical institutes should be given a paramount importance so that the youth get a technical skill set to later earn and run their housholds. The political authorities should be held accountable if they fail to provide basic necessities to the citizens.

In conclusion, paradox of hunger exixting alongside the rapid technical advancements in agriculture needs to be taken into account at a global level so that the solutions to the problem can be provided. The governments need to take significant actions to initiate projects so that the food could be provided at every table regardless of the economic status.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and maintain a relevant focus on why hunger persists despite agricultural progress and what governments could do. Economic inequality and limited food-support initiatives are plausible causes, while food schemes and technical education provide relevant responses. The Ghana example helps illustrate the contrast between national wealth and hunger, though the link between gold wealth and food insecurity needs clearer explanation or evidence. The proposed education measure is also less directly connected to immediate hunger than food assistance, and the conclusion repeats the need for government action rather than adding a developed final insight. To strengthen the response further, explain how each cause produces food insecurity and show how each proposed measure would address it; the main ideas are relevant, but some are not fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions, and a conclusion. This makes the line of argument easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. The opening of the second paragraph uses “Although” followed by “However,” creating an unnecessary contrast structure, and the repeated references to “advancements” make the progression feel circular. Some links between ideas also need clarification: the move from food schemes to technical institutes is abrupt, and “This is mainly because” could refer more precisely to the preceding point. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each solution explicitly to a cause, while varying transitions and avoiding repeated claims.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “economic disparity,” “government initiatives,” “technical skill set,” and “basic necessities.” These choices show an attempt to use more formal and less common language, and the meaning is generally clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “reasonable advancements” is not the intended sense, “meet their both ends meet” is malformed, and “food could be provided at every table” is an awkward way to express universal access. There are also spelling errors such as “previliged,” “exixting,” and “housholds.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and proofread spelling; this would make the vocabulary more controlled and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including the conditional “This can be tackled if…” and the purpose clause “so that the youth get…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Although, agriculture has experienced… However” creates a faulty sentence connection, while “Families at the lower end of strata are still struggling to meet their both ends meet” has an incorrect construction. The phrase “ranging from economic instability t lack” also contains a missing preposition element, and punctuation is inconsistent, as in “For example people…” and “mines.This”. Work on sentence boundaries, clause structure, and possessive or determiner patterns, then proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
