Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, despite of the advancements in agricultural industry, significant number of people are still deprived of food in the world. It is mainly because adding new technologies can only increase the production, but it cannot decrease the poverty in the world. To fulfill the requirement of food it is important that a common man can afford it as well.
The major cause for people going hungry on everyday basis is poverty. Advancements in agricultural not only increases the amount of food produced, but it also increases the cost. As the price gets high, it becomes difficult for people with no or less income to afford the food. According to experts almost 30% of the world population is unemployed or work at low wages. Hence it becomes extremely difficult for these people to afford basic necessaties including food and they go hungry most of the days.
As a solution, government should also focus on decreasing the poverty of the country. Authorities should take measures to expand the job market and increase the employment. Another step they can take is to make the food cheaper, so people with low wages can easily afford it. Government should also provide free food to homeless people.
In conclusion, only meeting the requirement of food is useless if the people donot have enough sources to afford it. Therefore, it is important to decrease the unemployment in a country to make sure people donot go hungry.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions and maintain a relevant central point: poverty can prevent people from accessing food even when agricultural output rises. The proposed responses—expanding employment, lowering food prices and providing food to homeless people—are relevant. However, the explanation is only partly developed: the claim that agricultural advances increase costs is asserted without explaining how, and the statistic about unemployment and low wages is not supported or linked clearly to hunger. The solutions also need more detail about how they would work. The response is 11 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop these ideas. Add a further cause or a specific example, then explain the likely impact of each solution.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining poverty, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of reasoning easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Hence,” “As a solution,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument, although some transitions feel formulaic. The connection between agricultural advances and higher food prices is not fully explained, so the progression within the cause paragraph is less clear than the paragraph structure suggests. The conclusion also repeats the focus on affordability and unemployment rather than drawing together the different proposed actions. Develop clearer links between each cause and its consequence, and use referencing or transitions that show how the ideas relate rather than relying mainly on signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “agricultural industry,” “production,” “poverty,” “employment,” and “low wages,” so the reader can understand the central argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “Authorities should take measures.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “advancements in agricultural,” “fulfill the requirement of food,” and “decreasing the poverty.” Spelling errors such as “necessaties” and “donot” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they make the expression less natural and precise. Build a reliable set of collocations for food access and public policy, and check spelling and word forms carefully during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some more complex structures, including “As the price gets high, it becomes difficult for people with no or less income to afford the food.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement occur. For example, “Advancements in agricultural … increases” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “significant number of people” is missing an article. The opening phrase “despite of” also shows an error in the grammatical pattern following “despite.” In addition, “government should” and “people donot” need more accurate article use and spacing. Practise checking each sentence for subject–verb agreement, articles and preposition patterns, while continuing to use a mix of simple and complex sentences.
