Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people around the world are facing hunger issues, despite the advancements in agriculture. While this can be attributed to inflation which makes the food expensive and fewer employment opportunities, the situation can be alleviated by making the food items less expensive and providing more job opportunities.

Inflation is one of the key factor behind hunger. In this fast-paced world, everything is now expensive, making the people suffer by not being able to get the basic necessities of life. Take, for example, petrol prices are now at its peak at the global level due to the geopolitical issues, which in turn affect the prices of other goods that are transported by means of various transports, requiring fuel. Another cause of this issue is the lack of employment opportunities. There is a high level of competition in the job market and unemployment rates are at its peak due to which most of the underdeveloped and developing countries have to face hunger as jobs help people to fulfil the basic needs and survive in this expensive world.

However, there are several ways by which the issue can be resolved. Firstly, government should make the food items less expensive and readily available despite the growing inflation, so that people from any class can afford it and do not have to stay hungry. For instance, there are many countries which opened convenience stores, where all the food items are much cheaper and easily accesible for everyone. Secondly, by providing sufficient job opportunities in all sectors. This will help all the people, including educated and uneducated to become employed and cope up with the increased inflation.

In conclusion, the main reasons why people around the world still go hungery despite agricultural advancements are due to the increased inflation, making the food less affordable and there are insufficient jobs. However, by taking initiatives to make the food readily available and less expensive and by providing employment opportunities by the government, the situation can be controlled.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and maintain a clear focus on affordability and employment as causes, then propose cheaper, accessible food and more jobs as responses. The petrol-price example helps explain how transport costs can affect food prices. However, some points are asserted rather than fully developed: the link between unemployment and hunger is broad, and the convenience-store example does not explain how governments could make such provision affordable or sustainable. The response would be stronger with more precise explanation of how agricultural advances fail to reach hungry people—for example, because of distribution problems, conflict, or unequal access to land and income—and with fuller support for each proposed solution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: the introduction identifies causes and solutions, the second paragraph explains causes, the third presents remedies, and the conclusion summarises the argument. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “However” make the structure easy to follow. The ideas within paragraphs are generally connected, particularly the explanation of fuel costs affecting transported goods. Some linking is a little mechanical, and the long sentence beginning “There is a high level of competition” combines several claims without clearly separating their relationships. More varied transitions and clearer links between each cause and its corresponding solution would make the progression more flexible and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “inflation,” “geopolitical issues,” “employment opportunities,” and “agricultural advancements.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “hunger issues,” “at its peak” for prices and unemployment rates, and “cope up with.” There are also spelling errors in “accesible” and “hungery.” Aim for more precise phrasing and check spelling carefully; for example, distinguish rising food costs from unemployment, and use natural combinations such as “cope with rising costs” and “food insecurity.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “so that people from any class can afford it” and the explanation of how fuel costs affect transported goods. The meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “one of the key factor” needs plural agreement (“factors”), and “petrol prices are now at its peak” has a pronoun-agreement problem. The sentence beginning “Take, for example” is also awkwardly constructed, while “government should” needs an article or plural form. Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and revise long sentences so that each relationship between ideas is grammatically clear.
