Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an opinion that although the modern technology made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry. I believe that wars, natural disasters, poverty and food wastage are the main causes of food shortage, if government and people take step this problem can be overcome.

To begin with, the main reason of food shortage is poverty and unequal distribution of food. Some people produce enough food, but does not shared fairly. Wealthy people can but sufficient food and poor does not families can not afford it. Furthermore, wars and natural disaters may also lead to surplus in food. As wars and natural disaster such as drought and floods damage crops and reduce agriculture problems. The food wastage is another reason of food hunger in many people. For example, Food is wasted in rish countries, while people in poorer regions suffer from hunger. as a result many prople around the world still go hungery.

However, this problem might be reduced with the proper measurements. First, Goevrnment should reduce the poverty and unemployment from the country. They should create job opportunities and provide financial support to vulnerable people. This would help poor people to buy nutritious meals. Second, Government should maintain emergency food reserves to help people during floods, droughts and wars. Moreover, the wastages of food should also be reduced. The restaurants, supermarkets and household should avoid throwning away. They should donate extra food to charities instead of throwning away. Consequently, these measurement can be done about this problem.

In conclusion, although poverty, food wastages, natural disastars and wars may cause the food shortage problem, I believe that if the Government and people can take equally steps, this problem can be easily resolved.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify causes, including poverty, unequal distribution, conflict, disasters and food waste, and suggest responses such as job creation, financial support, emergency reserves and food donation. Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion. The examples about droughts, floods and food waste in richer countries are relevant, but several points are asserted rather than explained. For instance, the link between conflict or disasters and food shortages could be developed by explaining how damaged transport or farms prevent food reaching people. The proposed measures also need clearer links to particular causes. The response meets the required length; 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “However” help signal the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, “wars and natural disaster … may also lead to surplus in food” conflicts with the point about hunger, while the following explanation about crop damage suggests shortage. The final sentence of the solutions paragraph repeats the idea that measures can address the problem without adding a clear summary. Use more precise referencing and ensure each connector reflects the relationship between the ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “unequal distribution,” “vulnerable people,” “emergency food reserves,” and “nutritious meals.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts of the response less clear. “Surplus in food” does not express the intended shortage, and “proper measurements” is not the natural phrase for actions or policies. There are also repeated forms such as “food wastage” and “food shortage,” alongside misspellings including “disaters,” “rish,” and “hungery.” Build a more accurate set of topic expressions and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make your ideas easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if government and people take step this problem can be overcome” and a relative clause in “people … who still go hungry.” However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences, and some errors make relationships difficult to understand. For example, “Some people produce enough food, but does not shared fairly” has problems with agreement and verb form; “Wealthy people can but sufficient food” also lacks a correctly formed verb phrase. Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries need attention, as in “the restaurants, supermarkets and household should avoid throwning away.” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and divide complex ideas into clear, complete sentences.
