Student answer (Band 6.0)
Despite of the advances in agriculture, millions of people around the world continue to suffer from hunger.this mainly because of poverty, unequal food distribution and conflicts. However, several measures can be taken to solve this serious problem.
There are several reasons why hunger remains a major global issue. First of all, Poverty prevents many people for buying sufficient food, even when it is available in local markets. In developing countries, many families have low incomes and struggle to afford basic necessities. Secondly, food is not distributed equally.while some countries produce more food than they need, others experience shortage due to poor transportation and storage facilities. Furthermore, wars, natural disasters and climate change can damage crops and interrupt food suplies. For example, severe droughts may destroy harvests and leave farmers without enough food or income.
Several steps can taken to reduce hunger. Government should invest modern farming technology, irrigation system and better storage facilities to increase agriculture productivity and reduce food waste. In addition, they should provide financial support and affordable farming equipment to small-scale farmers.
Moreover, government should create employment opportunities and provide financial assistance to low incomes families so that they can afford nutritious meals.
In conclusion, hunger continues to exists because of Poverty, unequal food distribution and environmental or political problems. Governments, farmers and charitable organisations must work together to improve food production, reduce waste and ensure that everyone has access to sufficient food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions by identifying causes—poverty, unequal distribution, conflict and environmental damage—and proposing measures such as investment in farming technology, support for small farmers and assistance for low-income families. These points are relevant, and the drought example helps illustrate one cause. However, several ideas are stated briefly rather than explained: for instance, you mention poor storage and transportation but do not show how these lead to food shortages or what practical improvements would help. The response also contains 226 words, below the required 250, so there is limited space to develop the causes and solutions. Extend key points with explanation or a specific example, especially for the proposed government measures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore” and “In addition” help readers recognise the progression. This coherent arrangement meets the core expectations, with some evidence of more flexible organisation. To strengthen cohesion further, avoid relying mainly on list-like transitions and make links between ideas more explicit. For example, connect unequal distribution and poor storage directly to the resulting shortages, then show how the suggested investment addresses those problems. Consistent spacing and punctuation around transitions would also make the flow smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “food distribution,” “storage facilities,” “small-scale farmers,” “financial assistance” and “nutritious meals.” These choices make the subject clear, and terms such as “droughts” and “harvests” add useful specificity. There are also some inaccurate forms and collocations, including “food suplies,” “agriculture productivity” and “low incomes families”; these reduce precision, although the intended meaning remains understandable. Aim to check spelling and choose natural word combinations, such as “agricultural productivity” and “low-income families.” You could also vary repeated general terms such as “food” and “problem” with precise alternatives where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including the clause “even when it is available in local markets” and the sentence beginning “so that they can afford nutritious meals.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but errors in sentence construction, verb forms, articles and agreement recur. Examples include “This mainly because” (missing “is”), “prevents many people for buying” (incorrect preposition pattern), “Several steps can taken” (missing “be”) and “hunger continues to exists” (incorrect verb form). Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, particularly where sentences run together after full stops. Proofread for complete clauses and check verb patterns; this will improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex sentences.
