Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this modern world, there is a great advancement of agriculture yet everyday people all over world continue to suffer hunger and many people even die. In this essay, we will be researching and have a solution for this.

To begin with, the first reason why it is happening is poverty and low income. There is development in agriculture but umployment is the greatest issue in our world. Due to climate change, drought, floods and other natural disasters damage crop and reduce food products. One example of this would be in many African nations, where malnourishment has historically been highest. Long-term economic neglect means that the government has very limited ability to sibsidise farming.

The solution that I believe would be most effective is directing humanitarian funds previously focused on food aid towards education and agriculture infrastructure. Food aid is a notoriously poor solution because it only offers an immediate solution and warlords often exploit it to support their continued mistreatment of their people. It

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify relevant causes, especially poverty, low income, unemployment and crop damage from climate-related disasters, and you offer a possible response through investment in education and agricultural infrastructure. However, the task is only partially addressed: the causes are listed rather than explained in depth, and the proposed solution is not developed with clear steps or supporting examples. The response also ends abruptly at “It,” leaving the argument and conclusion incomplete. The required minimum length is not met, which contributes to the limited development of both parts of the question. To strengthen the response, explain how poverty prevents people from accessing food and show how the proposed investment would improve production or distribution, then complete the essay with a clear concluding position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: an opening introduces the issue, “To begin with” signals a discussion of causes, and “The solution” introduces a response. These markers help readers recognise the intended structure. However, progression is limited because the response moves quickly from poverty to unemployment, climate disasters and an example without explaining how the points connect. The final paragraph stops mid-sentence, so the essay has no completed ending. Some linking is also mechanical, as in “the first reason why it is happening.” Use separate, fully developed paragraphs for causes and solutions, connect each example directly to its point, and add a conclusion that summarises the main argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “climate change,” “drought,” “natural disasters,” “malnourishment,” “humanitarian funds” and “food aid.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. However, the range is uneven, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “food products” for food production and “agriculture infrastructure.” There are also spelling errors in “umployment” and “sibsidise,” while “all over world” is missing a natural expression. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; a few precise terms used correctly will be more effective than ambitious wording that is unclear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, for example, “Due to climate change, drought, floods and other natural disasters damage crop and reduce food products.” The meaning is generally understandable, but control is inconsistent. In the opening, “there is a great advancement” is awkwardly formed, and “we will be researching and have a solution” does not use parallel verb structures. There are also article and plural issues in “all over world” and “damage crop,” as well as punctuation spacing in “products.One.” The final “It” is an incomplete sentence. Practise building complete sentences with consistent verb forms, accurate articles and plurals, and careful punctuation.
