Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both questions: it identifies weak food management and distribution as a cause, then proposes government legislation, public awareness, and redirecting surplus food. The example of a child dying from malnutrition and the reference to Somalia help make the issue concrete. However, the explanation of why food fails to reach people is not fully developed: the role of authorities is mentioned, but the mechanisms behind poor distribution are left unclear. The solutions are relevant, though “proper instructions” and “organized management” need more specific explanation to show how they would ensure access. A clearer, more consistently developed account of causes and practical measures would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining the problem, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “In order to solve,” and “In conclusion” make the stages easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Similarly” introduces the Somalia statistic without explaining how it relates to the preceding personal example, while “This is a detrimental situation” does not clearly identify which point it refers to. The repeated focus on food management also limits progression. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “food scarcity,” “malnutrition,” “distribution,” “food wastage,” and “legislation,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “food management,” “proper,” and “government,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “conform uniform availability” and “supports to reduce food scarcity.” Spelling errors—including “mangement,” “awarness,” and “goverment”—are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for more precise expressions for causes and solutions, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is an attempt to use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “Even though” and a purpose clause in “in order to reduce food wastage.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but some sentence structures and grammatical patterns are inaccurate. For example, “the food … is not effectively distributed to the needs” has an incomplete or unsuitable construction, and “excess food can be supplied to needed people supports to reduce food scarcity” combines clauses without a clear grammatical relationship. The opening sentence also has an awkward “despite of” construction. Work on clause boundaries, verb patterns, and sentence punctuation, while retaining the variety of structures attempted.
