Student answer (Band 5.5)

Though we are now living in a fast-paced world with so many modern advancements in agriculture, the starving problem is still common all over the world. The main reason of this situation is the higher demand for food compare to the production rate and excessive use of advanced tools leads to infertile land as a result, less production of food. The solution of this problem is to ensure the fertility of land by preventing excessive use of fertilisers.

Due to the modern advancements, the farmers are no longer interest to put effort in farming so they prefer to the use of advanced tools as a result the land becomes infertile and loss the ability to produce food. Again excessive use of fertilizers not only pollute the environment but also lead to soil degradation which affects the productivity because crops cannot get proper nutrient from soil. For example, the people of Africa are facing starving problem as the land is not suitable for cultivation thus remains infertile which consequently creates scarcity of food.

The solution of this problems requires mass awareness among the farmer which will make them realize about the consequences of fertilizers and prevent them from excessive use. Also, the global organization can play a vital role because they can represent this problem in global media so that initiative can take to ensure food availability for all people.

In conclusion, there is no denying that modern advancements lead to infertility of land thus there is still starving problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions by identifying soil degradation and excessive fertiliser use as causes, then proposing farmer awareness and a role for global organisations. These ideas are relevant, but the response only partially develops the task: the explanation that farmers use advanced tools and therefore make land infertile is unclear, and the example about Africa is broad and not supported with detail. The proposed actions also need more explanation—for instance, how awareness would change farming practices or what practical measures organisations could take to improve food access. The conclusion repeats the claim about infertility rather than drawing together the causes and solutions. The response is 248 words, so it does not meet the required minimum of 250 words; use the extra space to develop your reasoning and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your answer. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, especially in the sentence beginning “Due to the modern advancements,” where several ideas are joined without clear relationships. Linking expressions such as “Again” and “as a result” are used mechanically or do not precisely show the connection between points. The example about Africa is attached to the explanation, but its relevance and development are not made fully clear. Improve cohesion by separating cause-and-effect steps into shorter sentences and using precise references and transitions to show how each point supports your answer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “soil degradation,” “productivity,” “fertilisers,” and “food availability,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also an attempt to use less common language, such as “infertile” and “scarcity.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which makes some ideas less clear: “starving problem,” “higher demand for food compare to the production rate,” and “the land becomes infertile and loss the ability” are not natural expressions. “Modern advancements” is repeated, and “advanced tools” is too vague to explain the agricultural practices you mean. Build precision by learning common collocations such as “food insecurity,” “demand exceeds supply,” and “soil fertility,” and check word forms and spelling consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “because,” “as a result,” and “which,” so there is some variety. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors recur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “farmers are no longer interest” needs a correct adjective or verb form, while “the land becomes infertile and loss the ability” has an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence of the second paragraph also runs several clauses together, making the relationships hard to follow. There are punctuation and spacing problems, such as the missing space after “advancements,”. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea and a clearly controlled subordinate clause, then proofread for agreement and verb forms.
