Student answer (Band 5.5)

The prompt states that although there have been many developments in agriculture industry, many civilians around the world still go hungry. I would rather say that it is because of the economic crisis facing in certain countries and the neglecting demand from local people. However, there are effective solutions for reducing hunger.

In many countries, the poverty rate has been increasing rapidly due to inflation and other factors such as civil wars and unemployments. This leads the price of food to soar significantly and unable individuals to afford and feel continuous hunger. For example, many civilians in Myanmar, a country facing a civil war for 7 years, find it hard to get a basic salary and earn income daily. On the other hand, the prices of food and other daily-used products has been increasing continuously as battles sometimes break out along the routes used for importing products. These circumstances make the people hard to pay for a single meal, which later encourage more riots in the coountry.

To solve these problem, a country's government takes a truly important role. The regulations such as reducing amount of tariff for import products should be considered. Another important aspect is limiting the export of agricultural products by trading companies. In fact, locals should be first prior consumers of the local products before exporting to other countries. When a country is facing economic crisis, individuals should be encouraged to consumer local food, which cost relatively low. This helps not only reduce the hunger of people but also support country's economy.

In conclusion, despite going hunger in many countries around the world, there are possible solutions to solve these problems with gob

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you identify poverty, inflation, conflict and disrupted imports as reasons for hunger, then suggest reducing import tariffs, prioritising local consumers and encouraging local food. The Myanmar example helps make the causes more concrete. However, the response only partially develops these points. The phrase “neglecting demand from local people” is unclear and is not explained, while the proposed measures are listed more than examined; for instance, you do not explain how limiting exports would be implemented or why it would reliably improve access. The conclusion is also incomplete, ending with “with gob,” so it does not clearly summarise your answer. Clarify the central causes and explain the likely impact of each solution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions and a conclusion. This gives the reader an overall route through the answer, and transitions such as “For example,” “On the other hand” and “To solve these problem” signal relationships between ideas. However, some links are not fully logical: “On the other hand” introduces a related consequence rather than a contrasting point, and the connection between food-price increases and “more riots” needs clearer explanation. References such as “These circumstances” are broad, so it is not always clear which details they refer to. The final sentence is unfinished, weakening the ending. Use more precise links and ensure each paragraph develops one clearly connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “inflation,” “civil wars,” “tariff,” “agricultural products” and “economic crisis,” which gives the response a relevant range. Some expressions are also specific to the discussion of food access. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward, and these errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “neglecting demand,” “unable individuals,” “daily-used products,” “make the people hard to pay” and “encouraged to consumer local food.” There are also spelling or form errors such as “coountry” and “unemployments.” Aim to learn common word partnerships and check word forms; more precise phrasing will make your ideas clearer without requiring unnecessarily advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure with “This leads…” and a conditional clause beginning “When a country is facing economic crisis.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors occur across the response. For example, “the prices … has been increasing” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “To solve these problem” has a number-agreement error. In “which later encourage more riots,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and the opening “I would rather say that it is because…” creates an unclear sentence structure. Review agreement, articles and sentence construction, then proofread each sentence to ensure that its subject and verb match and that clauses are complete.
