Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many people around the world suffer from hunger, despite the advances made in agriculture. The prevalence of hunger is an evident display of class differences, and a little support from the government would be able to reduce this problem.
The access to food depends on the purchasing power of people. Globally, enough food is produced to feed the entire population on Earth, but food is not distributed as a basic necessity in the market. Rich people have access to all kinds of food at any time of the year, whereas people with less purchasing power have to decide whether they would be able to afford a basic necessity, such as food. For instance, vegetables are sold at different prices depending on their quality making it a symbol of wealth, instead of a basic human need. Consequently, even with more advanced agricultural machinery and increased food production, many people around the world still go hungry.
The solution to the problem is changing the distribution pattern of food. The governments should make sure that food is distributed as a basic human need, instead of another symbol of status and wealth. Food should be subsidized for people with less purchasing power. The government should not charge tax on basic food items and make sure that they are sold at the same price everywhere. For example, prices of staple food should be the same in small and big shops and well within the reach of poor people.
In conclusion, when food is treated like a basic necessity and well within the reach of lower-class people, only then the problem of world hunger could be solved. The governments should play their role and monitor the prices and provide subsidies when needed. Without these efforts, agricultural advancements alone would not be able to solve the problem of hunger.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both questions and maintain a clear position: hunger persists because access depends on purchasing power, and governments should improve affordability and distribution. The explanation that food is available globally but not accessible to poorer people is relevant, and the example of staple-food prices helps illustrate your proposed response. This meets the task well, but some ideas are more fully developed than others. The causes are mainly framed as inequality and market access; other relevant factors, such as conflict, food waste, or weak transport and storage systems, are not considered. The recommendations also focus largely on subsidies and price controls, with limited discussion of how these measures could be implemented or sustained. More specific development would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the cause, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion that restates the central argument. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. The organisation is effective, though cohesion is sometimes mechanical because paragraphs rely on a predictable sequence of claim, example, and summary. Some references could also be more precise: “this problem” and “the problem” refer broadly to hunger, while the discussion shifts between food access, pricing, and distribution. To improve, use more varied transitions and make the relationship between each example and the specific point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “purchasing power,” “basic necessity,” “subsidized,” and “agricultural machinery,” and the meaning remains clear throughout. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “prevalence of hunger” and “distribution pattern.” However, some word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive. “An evident display of class differences” is an awkward way to describe hunger as evidence of inequality, and “changing the distribution pattern of food” would sound more natural as a call to improve food distribution. “The governments” is also less idiomatic when referring to governments generally. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms such as “basic necessity,” “food,” and “problem.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You demonstrate a useful mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses (“despite the advances…”) and a conditional construction (“when food is treated… only then…”). Many sentences are accurate and easy to follow, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. A few grammatical issues remain. In “The access to food depends,” the article is unnecessary with this general meaning; “Access to food depends” is more natural. In “vegetables are sold at different prices depending on their quality making it a symbol,” the participial phrase needs clearer punctuation and the pronoun reference is unclear; consider splitting the sentence. “The governments should…” also uses an unnecessary article for a general statement. Greater control of these details would make the otherwise clear structures more consistently accurate.
