Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary world, many countries around the world are dealing with the problem of lack of food for everyone. Although agriculture have significantly advanced over the years, the solution to satisfy hunger of every individual still remains as a major concern. This essay will discuss the reason for this and the methods to effectively address it.

To begin with, agriculture is one of the fastest growing field of science in which major milestones like release of hybrid varieties and fortified rice are contributing significantly in satisfying the growing food needs. Even so, it would be a herculean task to satisfy hunger with the accelerated population. Similarly, inflation contributes to the reduced standard of living of common people and poverty increases as a result. Moreover, reduced suitable land area for farming is a major problem as houses and flats are constructed by clearing agriculture fields. For example, India's population density is significantly higher compared to it's land area and thereby it would be nearly impossible to produce food for everyone. Therefore, population growth, inflation and reduction in suitable area for farming are the major barriers to provide food for everyone.

Furthermore, this problem can be effectively addressed by the introduction of various schemes to support people who are under poverty such as providing various subsidies inorder to reduce the economic disparity among the population. Similarly, strict laws should be created regarding the inappropraiate use of suitable agricultural lands. In addition, awareness classes can be conducted for farmers to encourage the cultivation of new variety possessing characteristics such as shorter crop duration. For instance, usage of hybrid wheat variety released by Dr. M. S. Swaminathan helped India to satisfy the hunger of millions and utilization of the new improved varieties by the farmers can br a signifucant help in reducing hunger .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions by identifying causes—population growth, poverty and inflation, and loss of farmland—and proposing responses such as subsidies, land-use laws, and farmer education. The examples about India and improved crop varieties help make the discussion relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the link between inflation and hunger is mentioned briefly, and the example of population density does not show clearly how food distribution or access contributes to hunger. The proposed measures also need more explanation of how they would work in practice. The response therefore covers the task, but some ideas are less fully developed or clearly supported than others. Extend each main point with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions, and an attempted conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “For example” helps readers follow the main stages. Within paragraphs, however, several causes and solutions are listed in sequence without enough explanation of how they connect, so progression can feel mechanical. The final line, “In conckusion,” is incomplete and leaves the essay without a summary or final position. Some linking words, including “Similarly” and “Moreover,” introduce points but do not always clarify their relationship. Develop a complete conclusion and use transitions that show whether a point is an additional cause, a result, or a response.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “hybrid varieties,” “fortified rice,” “economic disparity,” and “agricultural lands.” Attempts at less common expressions such as “herculean task” show ambition, although some combinations are not natural or precise: “satisfy hunger of every individual” and “reduced suitable land area” could be expressed more idiomatically. There are also spelling errors, including “inappropraiate,” “signifucant,” and “conckusion,” which reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but more careful word choice and proofreading would make the argument clearer and more fluent. Prefer precise collocations such as “meet food demand” and “arable land.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “Although agriculture have significantly advanced…” and a relative clause in “variety possessing characteristics such as shorter crop duration.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “agriculture have” should be “agriculture has,” and “one of the fastest growing field” needs a plural noun: “fields.” The phrase “compared to it's land area” also has an incorrect possessive form, while “houses and flats are constructed by clearing agriculture fields” would benefit from a clearer grammatical relationship. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence punctuation during revision. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen an otherwise understandable response.
