Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant causes, including unequal access to modern machinery, pesticide overuse, seed quality, and farmers continuing to use older methods. However, the response only partially answers the question: it does not clearly explain how these factors lead to people going hungry, and the discussion of modern technology’s benefits takes up space without directly addressing the causes of hunger. The second part of the task is not answered with practical measures; the conclusion repeats concerns about seeds and old techniques rather than explaining what governments, communities, or farmers could do. To strengthen the response, develop a clear explanation of the causes and propose specific solutions, such as improving access to equipment, training, or reliable seed varieties, with examples showing how these could reduce food shortages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphs also group related points, such as technology’s benefits and concerns about pesticides and seeds. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph focuses on advantages of modern farming, while the task asks why hunger persists, and the final paragraph repeats earlier points rather than bringing the argument to a clear resolution. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Although,” and “Furthermore” are used, but some connections are mechanical or unclear, and “Although” is followed by “but.” Improve cohesion by making each paragraph serve a distinct purpose and using clear references to show how each cause contributes to hunger and how proposed actions address it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “modern technology,” “pesticides,” “variety of the seeds,” and “crops rotation.” This gives the response a basic range for discussing agriculture. However, errors in spelling, word form, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make ideas difficult to interpret, as in “hungriness,” “work accountability,” and “low qualities seeds.” Several expressions are also repeated, particularly “modern technology” and “agriculture and farming,” limiting precision. Aim to use accurate topic-specific phrases and check spelling carefully. For example, describe “limited access to machinery” rather than “lack of advance machinary,” and use “crop yields” when discussing the amount of food produced. More precise vocabulary would help clarify your explanations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including examples introduced with “for instance” and a contrast beginning “Although.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries occur frequently. For example, “the population of the world are hungry” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the modern technology have played” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “Although, the advancement…” is also incorrectly joined with “but.” These errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected supporting clause, and check that subjects and verbs agree. Also review punctuation and avoid joining complete ideas with commas alone.
