Student answer (Band 6.5)

We live in the era of technology. Like all other fields, technology has evolved the field of agriculture. But despite of the improvement of technology in this field, many people around the globe still face hunger. There are several reasons why in some areas people have food, out of which some major issues are mentioned here.

First of all, a significant rise in human population has been observed in the developing countries. To accomodate this thriving population of humans, a lot of angricultural land has been used to build houses and buildings. It has caused shortage of agricultural land in such countries. The remaining land isnot capable of producing enough food for this enormous population even with the advanced technology. For Examle,in Pakistan, most of the land, which could be used to grow rice, maze, corn etc.is now under the control of several housing societies around the country. So the significant increase in population is one of the causes why people still face hunger.

Secondly, most of the farmers around the world are not educated. They solely rely on traditional methods of farming. These methods are inefficient and have relatively lower production rates as compared to the modern, technologically advanced methods. By using these out-dated methods the land is unable to fulfill the needs of such a huge population.

Moreover, most of the developing countries are unable to invest in technology because of high costs. This makes it very difficult for farmers to buy modern machinery and integrate technical equipment in their agricultural land which boost the production. Most of the farmers can't afford the updated methods for harvesting. This results in less production which causes food scarcity in these countries.

Several steps should be taken to overcome the mentioned issues. Firstly, population control awareness campaigns should be promoted to educate people. Secondly, the farmers should be educated through proper channels so they get exposure to modern harvesting methods and advanced equipment. Also, policies should be made to make the technology affordable for farmers in the developing countries. I hope that in the future our farmers are educated and well equipped.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions: you identify causes such as population growth, loss of farmland, limited farmer training and the cost of modern equipment, then propose awareness campaigns, education and more affordable technology. The Pakistan example gives a relevant illustration of land being converted to housing. This meets the task well, and the main ideas are clear. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the link between population-control campaigns and reducing hunger is not developed, and the discussion does not consider other factors such as food distribution or poverty. The final hope for better-equipped farmers restates a solution rather than adding support. More explanation of how each measure would reduce hunger would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, three cause-focused paragraphs, a solutions paragraph and a concluding sentence. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” “Moreover” and “Firstly” help readers follow the progression. The cause-and-effect links are generally understandable, particularly where land conversion is connected to reduced food production. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical because paragraphs rely heavily on these signposts, and the solutions are presented as a list rather than developed in a connected argument. Some references are also imprecise, such as “the mentioned issues,” which could identify the causes more specifically. Use a wider range of transitions and connect each proposed action directly to the problem it addresses.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “agricultural land,” “traditional methods of farming,” “modern machinery,” “production rates” and “food scarcity.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to use more formal language. However, several spelling errors and awkward or imprecise collocations reduce accuracy, including “accomodate,” “angricultural,” “out-dated” and “integrate technical equipment in their agricultural land.” Some wording is also repetitive, especially “technology,” “farmers” and “production.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe farmers as adopting or using equipment, rather than integrating it “in” land. Greater variety in terms for food supply and agricultural output would also improve flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because of high costs” and “which could be used to grow rice.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the overall argument remains easy to follow. Some grammatical and punctuation errors persist, however. In “despite of the improvement,” the preposition pattern is incorrect; use “despite the improvement” or “in spite of the improvement.” The sentence beginning “There are several reasons why in some areas people have food” is awkwardly constructed, and “which boost the production” does not agree with its singular antecedent, “equipment.” There are also run-on spacing and punctuation problems, such as “hunger. There” and “Examle,in.” Review clause construction, agreement and sentence boundaries to make the complex structures more controlled.
